Canadian Artist Zach Zoya Premieres “Start Over” Music Video

Today rapper/singer/songwriter Zach Zoya revealed the official music video for his latest single “Start Over” with an exclusive premiere on Vogue Italia. Directed by Adem Boutlidja and filmed in Zoya’s home city of Montréal, the video portrays memories of a past relationship. “It’s about young, impulsive, tumultuous love,” Zoya says. “The kind of love you would do all over again even knowing how dark it can get. The type of love that’s always worth it.”

Collaborating with fellow Montréal artist Benny Adam and producers Billboard and Ruffsound on the single, it was one of the first times Zoya experienced songwriting with other creatives. The recognition of Zach Zoya’s versatile talent has resulted in the 23-year-old’s recent GAMIQ Award nomination for his debut EP Spectrum (released in 2020) and his first ADISQ nomination – one of the highest honors an artist can be awarded in Québec – for his Boi-1da, Matthew Burnett and Don Mills produced single “Patience” featuring UK artist Angel. With the releases of “Start Over”“Understand” and “Feelings”, Zoya has fans energized and eager for the release of his upcoming sophomore EP, due out in 2022.

As his star begins to rise, we got the chance to ask Zach a few questions:

What was the inspiration behind the visuals for “Start Over?”

Zach: It’s a visual representation of a relationship in a series of flashbacks. It’s about remembering the good and the bad moments and not wanting to change anything about it in retrospect. There’s something special about going through thick and thin together and not wanting to change anything about it. It’s unique, it’s precious.

What do you hope your listeners get out of “Start Over?”

Zach: I hope they’ll think about their own precious memories, their special someone, that unique moment of their lives that they wouldn’t trade for anything. It’s about a piece of happiness somewhere in the past -or you could be living it right now- but at the end of the day, the lesson to be taken out of this is to enjoy the present moment. Happiness is a fleeting thing.

What can we expect from you for the rest of the year and going into 2022?

Zach: The world is finally opening back up! I’m doing a bunch of shows this winter (catch me at Quebec City’s Winter Carnaval this January) and a lot more music coming very soon including my new EP! Stay tuned!!
