Live Session With Emmy-Nominated Actress Kelly Jenrette

Live Session with Emmy-nominated actress Kelly Jenrette (Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale”) who’s been on our radar for quite a while. We caught up with her to talk about her starring role in The CW’s series All-American: Homecoming, her journey, making history with the Emmys, and more.

  • Fun-Facts:
    • Was a series regular on the Fox comedy, “Grandfathered,” starring John Stamos.
    • Originally from Atlanta and is a Georgia State University (GSU) alumnus.
    • In 2018, she and her husband, Melvin Jackson Jr., became the first African-American married couple to be nominated for Emmy’s® in the same year.
    • Was a part of the 13-time Ovation Nominated Musical, “The Color Purple” at the Celebration Theatre, where her portrayal of ‘Nettie’ earned her an individual Ovation Nomination for Best Featured Actress.

Kelly is a dynamic person and creative with quite a bit to say about the future of the business and women’s place in driving that future, especially women of color. Totally jazzed I got to spend this time in conversation with her…Tune In!!!

Kelly is also currently writing a play commissioned by the Black Rebirth Collective, which imagines a real-life meeting between Betty Shabazz and Coretta Scott King, the widows of Malcolm X and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., respectively. Through Kelly’s writing and imagination coupled with some of Betty and Coretta’s words, the play will take the audience on the journey of how Betty and Coretta’s relationship went from “rivalry to tolerance to genuine affection.”
