Who is Karléh?

Karléh, also known as Karléh Ashana, recently signed with Epic Vizion Entertainment and is currently their featured star on the rise.

Karléh wrote her first song at only 4 years old and has always loved being a part of creating music ever since. Karléh had a very successful track and field career at her alma mater, Yale University. After retiring from sports, Karléh began working in civil rights and has helped with fair housing since 2016.

Karléh returned to creating music in 2019. In 2020, Karléh recorded her single “Best Of Me” with Grammy Award winner producer and engineer Reginald ‘ReggieNic” Nicholas in New Orleans, LA.

Karléh aspires to headline shows and share the stage with some of the most influential people in the world. She also uses her platform and voice to advocate for victims of domestic violence. Karléh is now living in Atlanta, GA and currently pursuing her passion of sharing her gift with the world, through singing, writing, modeling and acting.

Hype: What inspired you to get into the music industry?

I was inspired since I was a little kid from watching singers that I loved perform and entertain their fans.

Hype: How did your stage name Karléh come about?

My stage name is my real name and means lovely in Ghanaian.

Hype: What are some of the most memorable moments in your career so far?

Performing on New Year’s Eve at a popular nightclub in Atlanta, Georgia, being able to have an awesome band, and having a supportive and strong management team.

Hype: What have been some challenges?

Some challenges that I have are breaking through into the industry as a star on the rise and dealing with some promoters and venues before having my management team.

Hype: What are you looking forward to in the coming year?

I am looking forward to headlining performances and touring.

Hype: What blessings came out of the pandemic for you?

I was blessed to have more time to write, record, and secure my band with the help of my management.

Hype: What are you currently working on?

I am currently working on developing new music, creating a video for my new single, and practicing my performance.

Hype: What else can we be on the lookout for?

You can be on the lookout for summer performances, new music, and possibly a tour coming soon.

Hype: What advice would you have for anyone who wants to join the music industry?

Stay true to yourself, don’t rush the process, and never give up.

Hype: What was the first piece of music that you bought for yourself and what was the medium?

The first piece of music that I bought for myself was a vinyl record by the Hot 8 Brass Band. They are a legendary New Orleans style band.

Hype: What’s at the top of your professional bucket list to perform at?

The Essences Festival, BET Awards, and The Soul Train Music Awards to name a few.

Hype: How did your hometown/city shape you?

It gave me my down to earth vibe to be able to perform and or work with anyone, anywhere.

Hype: What’s the last song you listened to?

The last song that I listened to is my new single, Red Flags which will be released soon.

Hype: If you could see any artist in concert dead or alive who would it be?

Anita Baker. My father gave me her CD when I was really young, and she was one of my first musical influences.

Hype: What’s one thing that even your most devoted fans don’t know about you?

I was a record holder, track and field athlete at Yale University. I also used to dream of being in the Olympics.

Hype: If you were not a musician, what would you be?

I would be a track and field athlete.

Hype: Tell us about your latest single “Red Flags?

My latest single is called Red Flags. I wrote it about a person taking responsibility for ignoring the red flags in a relationship.
