A Look At The New Independent Film “Match,” As Screening At This Year’s DTLA Film Festival

Match is a new independently-produced feature film that anyone who has done online dating ought to connect with. Beyond its innovative storytelling, Match has other terrific elements to it, including the challenge of shooting during the COVID-19 lockdown. Set to have its world premiere on Saturday, September 17, 2022, Match will debut at the Regal LA Live Theater as part of the DTLA Film Festival at 1:50 PM local time, as showing part of the acclaimed festival’s narrative feature competition.

The story of Match is told using only the emails and text messages the characters send to one another. Little by little we piece together their interactions and come to see that both characters have flaws and are pushing each other’s buttons in ways that are increasing the stakes. The result is a voyeuristic experience that uses graphics as well as the actors’ performances to take you into the minds of two people in a way that truly says something about the dating culture of the modern era.

Match stars Austin Nichols (John From Cincinnati, Ray Donovan, The Walking Dead, Minx) and Ahna O’Reilly (The Help, The Morning Show, Gaslit, Where The Crawdads Sing) with a special appearance by Spencer Garrett (Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Winning Time: The Rise Of The Lakers Dynasty). It was produced, written and directed by Sean McGinly, whose 2019 film Silver Lake won “Best Screenplay” at the DTLA Film Festival and “Best Narrative Feature” at the Omaha Film Festival and the Rincon Film Festival. McGinly has also written and/or directed films which starred the likes of Paul Rudd, Adam Scott, Donal Logue, John Malkovich, Colin Hanks, Emily Blunt, Tom Hanks and Kris Kristofferson.
