Dominican Music Star J. Cruze Talks Halloween Release of ‘BOMBERO’ Video

We got Dominican Republic artist J. Cruze whom we’re sure some of you may already know, to weigh in on a few things regarding his career, upcoming music, why he decided to drop the visual for his hit BOMBERO on Halloween, and more.

A pleasure to have you with us today J. Cruze! Can you tell the readers where you’re from?

I was born and raised in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in a small barrio called “Villa Duarte” I came to the U.S. when I was 10 years old, living in Lawrence, Massachusetts for 4 years and later moving to Richmond, Virginia where I graduated high school and completed the rest of my teenage years. I’ve been residing in Los Angeles for 5 years now and it became a place that I can call home!

You have a song out right now named “Heartless” with over 50,000+ plays on YouTube; tell us about it and do you have anything coming up that you can talk to us about?

Yes, Heartless was a dope Valentine’s day record. Usually, on Valentine’s people get lovey-dovey but, I wanted to flip it and talk more about heartbreaks. It was a good story, and the video was amazing. Shout out to my brother Vibez for putting it together. The fans loved it, I’m happy with it and it served its purpose. Now I have my latest record “BOMBERO” featuring DJ Fredy Fresco. I’ve been pushing this single for the last few months and it’s already at almost 100k streams! This is a Dembow record, a music genre that originated in my homeland Dominican Republic. It’s been blowing up everywhere, worldwide. Shout out to my producers Dos Flakos & Joey da Gawd for producing the record. Dominican brothers putting on for the culture!

How did your record “BOMBERO” come about?

The record “BOMBERO” came at a really creative time in my life. I was performing everywhere and getting acknowledged by a lot of people and I felt like I had the club scene on fire at the time and wanted to come up with the next big hit. That’s where “BOMBERO” came about. I wanted to make a record that was melodic but, at the same time catchy with a lot of good energy! I want you dancing!

Now that you mention your new music, are you planning on releasing a music video for “BOMBERO”?

Yes, I teamed up with my little brother Chronic Vibez from “Manifest Community” and my Dominican brother Johnny de la Cruz with “What’s Your Hustle Tv” they helped me make my vision come to life. The process took months but, we had to make sure we delivered a high-quality product! Chronic Vibez edits are insane and the “What’s Your Hustle” crew work ethic was impeccable. I dressed up as a fireman dancing on top of fire trucks ITS INCREDIBLE! The world gets to see my music video on October 31st, Halloween night. I can’t wait until everyone sees what we’ve made!

Are there any artists you would like to work with?

Maaan, it would be dope to work with El Alfa he is the pioneer of dembow right now and I feel like we are a lot alike in some ways haha Also Tokisha, she’s another big Dominican artist doing records with Marshmello and Madonna. Of course, I would love to work with Bad Bunny that’s a must! Me and Diddy need to get one in I feel like we can create something big and take over the world!

How is it being a Latin artist? Any uphill battles?

Being a Latin artist is the best feeling in the world because I get to represent my people and make a name for our generations to come. The Latin community supports us a lot and I can feel the genuine love in the air! There are definitely uphill battles, it’s still a new genre and there’s a lot of work that still needs to be done. I’ve been doing shows 3 times a week, industry events, sleepless nights in the studio, and managing two businesses. I’m still making sure I get in the gym, keeping my mind and body healthy to continue this journey. It’s definitely a challenge but God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers. I’m more motivated than ever and I’m grinding and going hard for the people.

How did you get into the music business?

Haha— It’s a funny story, I remember in the 6th grade we had our talent show coming up and I really wanted to be in it. It was a lip sync contest. Me and some friends got together and said we had to do it. We all put together a dance routine to a Daddy Yankee song called “Rompe”. I was Daddy Yankee, I had the Durag with the fitted hat and an oversized 2X jersey on. Haha, we had dancers and everything, and we actually ended up winning the talent show. After that, me and my friends got together at the library the next day and we were like we need to start recording for real. Ever since that day, I’ve been in love with music. It became an outlet for me to stay out of the streets and put my energy into something more productive and not destructive.

What’s something you want your supporters to know?

My supporters should know that I go above and beyond for my people and I do everything with positive energy and genuine love and I want nothing but the best for everyone! My supporters really motivate me to keep going even when I’m feeling down at times! I want to make my people proud, I have a lot of people counting on me that want to see me win and for that alone, I’m forever grateful.

Where did the stage name J.Cruze come from?

Well, my government name is Jordy Cruz. Growing up I listened to Jay Z and J. Cole, they were some of my favorite artists. That inspired me and I came up with a name that was true and connected to myself. J. Cruze is the name and the E at the end stands for EVERYTHING, meaning that I can achieve anything and everything I put my mind to. My potential is limitless to what I can accomplish. I can do everything— haha

Who was your biggest influence to do what you do with the music and entertainment business?

One of my biggest influences growing up was 50 cent, he paved the way to me for artists being businessmen and being involved in multiple things at once. From the music, to the movies, to the vitamin water deals and the clothing brand I was inspired. 50 was my favorite rapper because of how he did everything. Now I can see a lot of him in myself. I own a recording studio, video production company, and a Dominican food catering business, as well as being an artist, entrepreneurship is all I know.

We’ve seen you around Diddy and even Chance the Rapper, who else are you, good friends, within the industry? how did these relationships come about if you don’t mind us asking?

I’m cool with a lot of people In the industry, I think most light beings think alike. I was fortunate enough to be at Diddy’s lifetime award party. That will always be a memory I will never forget to share a big moment around legends like Diddy, lil Kim, etc. staying true to my authentic self has walked me through a lot of doors, this is how I know I have a gift. My energy is impeccable, and I’m here to share it with the world. Chance was a really dope person, I got invited to his art gallery release party at the MOCA in Los Angeles and got to chop it up with him multiple times and share dope ideas. I see us working together in the near future.

Do you any advice you have for any artist inspired by you?

Keep going even when the path seems impossible, Always stay true to yourself and be yourself and never change yourself for anybody. God gave you the gift of life and put you on this Earth, being the best person you can be is your gift back to God I believe. Con la positiva siempre (with the positives always)
