Pop Artist DeAna Fai: Talks “Christmas Love” Official Music Video Release with Childhood Friends

Known for creating an incredible comradery amongst her peers in entertainment, DeAna Fai sheds light on her success as an independent artist. Fai’s voice can be heard in several feature films streaming across the country and on DVD. A native of Virginia, alumni of both Norfolk State University and Eastern Virginia Medical School, this intelligent and talented artist dominates with passion to be heard in the music industry.

JW: DeAna Fai, we have known artists, seasoned and up and coming, to release their rendition of Christmas songs. What made you decide to create an original Christmas song?

DF: Christmas has always been my favorite time of the year and as a child I grew up listening to and admiring Christmas classics from a plethora of entertainers such as The Temptations, The Jackson 5, Mariah Carey and of course I can not forget Whitney Houston’s songs from the “Preacher’s Wife” soundtrack. All of their music is timeless. It wouldn’t feel like Christmas without hearing those songs. I was inspired as a child to one day hear my song and people around the world make it a household title.

JW: When you wrote “Christmas Love,” what was going through your mind? Were you attempting to make the next classic?

DF: I was just trying to make a happy Christmas song. There are so many Christmas songs that are sad and I just wanted something that made me feel good about being in love.

JW: So did you write this about someone in particular?

DF: Actually, no. I just imagined what love would be like especially during the holidays such as enjoying each other’s company doing the smallest things like watching movies, decorating, finding something to laugh about, spending time with family and friends, and so much more. I just wanted people to be reminded that real love is shared not bought.

JW: It wasn’t too long after that you released your Official Music Video for “Christmas Love.” How did you cast the talent in your project?

DF: Honestly, I kept wrecking my brain trying to think of someone to play my love interest. I needed someone that could match my energy, make me feel comfortable and look good on camera. It sounds easy but it was hard. (laughing) One day I was scrolling on social media and randomly came across a childhood friend by the name of Shaun Lassiter and I thought to myself “he looks the same. I wonder if he acts the same.” Although we were social media friends for years, we reconnected and met up at Panera Bread. It was the first time I had seen him in 19 years.

JW: Wow!

DF: Yea, and my Makeup Artist Tiffany Carroll of Creatiff Beauty Designs LLC was instrumental in this process as well. The funniest thing is that we all went to middle school together.

JW: Hold on, the lead in your project is a childhood friend?

DF: Yes! (laughing) We went to elementary, middle and high school together.

JW: I watched the music video and the chemistry was insane! That kiss seemed real.

DF: It just speaks volumes on how incredibly talented he is and I’m glad our chemistry resonated with everyone. That makes me happy. But yea, we all met at Panera Bread and it just felt like no time passed. Eventually, I scheduled the video shoot and we completed the project and I think we were all pleased with our work. Shoutouts to Byron Collins, Curtis Spruill, and Hidden Flowtus of AIFB Videos for the videography!

JW: Okay, okay. So, who are the others that were casted and what was that process like?

DF: (laughing) There was no real process. They were my nieces, brother, his wife, and my makeup artist. They were all supportive. I told them what needed to be done and they did it. I’m thankful for them all.

JW: Well, can you tell everyone where they can hear your song and watch your music video?

DF: Absolutely! You can find my song on most major streaming platforms such as Spotify, iTunes, and Amazon Prime. My Official Music Video for “Christmas Love” can be found on YouTube and the song can also be heard in the film “Catfish Christmas,” Directed by Victoria Rowell, so go check that movie out too! It stars Tony Todd, Ella Joyce, Leigh-Ann Rose, Andrae Bicy, Charlotte Evelyn Williams, Devin Laster, and Anthony Riggins Jr.

JW: Thank you, make sure you all go support singer-songwriter DeAna Fai and follow her career!

DF: Thank you for having me!
