East Coast Native Artist S.h.a.i.i is Set in Motion for Greatness

S.h.a.i.i is a 20-year-old artist who was born and raised in New York and is currently located in Philadelphia. The meaning behind the name S.h.a.i.i is Self Hate And Inner Iridescence as the artist explains that your inspiration can stem from your internal conflicts and turn into something much greater than the thing that is shackling you. His music background came from listening to Hip-Hop. The first album that he ever listened to was a cassette tape of the “Chronic” by Snoop Dog And Dr.Dre that he was gifted when he was seven. From there he ventured into a variety of other genres of music as he goes on to list some of his most notable musical influences. His favorite artists and also those who inspire him the most are Andre 3000, Tupac, Biggie, Nas, Sade, Isaiah Rashad, and smino. He names “BLK ODYSSY” as an artist who he would love to collaborate with in the future. The genre of music that S.h.a.i.i makes is primarily hip hop with integrated elements of neo soul and funk. S.h.a.i.i is making music for a future career and he elaborates on the therapeutic properties that it has as well. He is driven by his previous life experiences, and the current state of music as he feels that his unique sound is something that has been missing in the saturated state of present music. He names his family and close friends as his biggest supporters as they have always had his back in pursuing his music career.

When asking S.h.a.i.i about his decision to remain independent as an artist he states:

“Labels may seem like an ideal option in the moment but when you do not have control of your royalties, and catalog it negates you from having the ability to reap the fruits of your own labor. There is no point  in signing your artistic freedom over to possibly get your art shelved for a commodity of the label.”

Previous collaborations that S.h.a.i.i has had were with artists Cal Nubian, and Iris on their record New Sky’s. His words were that ” The collaboration was a great experience for three up and coming artists trying to establish themselves in the music game. Me and my good friend Cal Nubian have gotten far from where we have started. Our sounds have evolved immensely over the past year and our creativity and experimentation continue to improve every session”. S.h.a.i.i says that he is currently working on his debut album, after saying that he just released his new single “Cold World”. The expectancy for his next release date is in the next two to three months.
