We recently had the opportunity to speak to Dr. Ryan Polseli, and he shared his approach to patient care and innovation.

The inspiration behind MammoLink seems deeply rooted in patient care. Could you elaborate on how this idea came to fruition?

The inception of MammoLink stemmed from a glaring issue in breast imaging: the alarming number of women not receiving mammograms. This challenge was compounded by factors like wait lists, miscommunication, and inconvenient access. My aim was to provide sophisticated, accessible care using fellowship breast imagers. The name ‘MammoLink’ encapsulates my mission to ‘link’ patients to exceptional mammography services, addressing the hurdles in scheduling and accessibility.

Your typical day is a blend of high productivity and personal commitment. How do you balance these?

My days start early, around 4-6 AM, prioritizing crucial tasks. Work begins at 7:30 AM, filled with mammogram readings, biopsies, consultations, and constant communication. I utilize every minute productively, often skipping lunch. Family time is vital, so I ensure at least an hour with them after work, before resuming my readings until my productivity wanes around 7-8 PM.

Bringing ideas to life is a unique process for everyone. What’s yours like?

My ideas often surface unexpectedly, usually as solutions to frustrating issues. They may come early in the morning or require research and expert consultations. This trait, possibly inherited from my father, reflects an innate desire to find solutions.

What current trend in healthcare excites you the most?

The trend towards cost transparency in healthcare is thrilling. It empowers patients and physicians, fostering better communication and decision-making. This shift places healthcare control back in the hands of patients and physicians, marking a significant change in the industry.

Can you identify a personal habit that boosts your effectiveness as an entrepreneur?

Flexibility and improvisation are crucial. The dynamic nature of business requires adapting to changing situations across various spectrums, from financial decisions to interpersonal communications. This versatility is key to navigating diverse challenges and opportunities.

What advice would you give your younger self?

I’d advise ignoring the naysayers and trusting my instincts. Detaching from external negativity and focusing on personal goals is vital for success. Often, criticism reflects others’ insecurities rather than one’s own shortcomings.

What’s a belief you hold that most people might disagree with?

I firmly believe that patients will eventually dominate healthcare decision-making. This shift is crucial and aligns with MammoLink’s philosophy of empowering patients with knowledge and control over their health choices.

What is a repetitive action you recommend for success?

I constantly practice positive reinforcement. Finding optimism in every situation, whether it’s motivating a patient, a team member, or fostering a positive work environment, is integral to building a successful and enthusiastic team.

Could you share a strategy that has significantly helped grow MammoLink?

Reinvesting profits into the business is key. For instance, purchasing an additional radiologist workstation from two months’ profits enhanced our workflow and capacity. This long-term vision prioritizes growth and service quality over immediate financial gains.

Have you experienced a notable failure, and how did you overcome it?

Initially, I overly relied on advice from Healthcare MBAs, focusing too much on numbers rather than the nuanced needs of healthcare. I learned to trust my expertise and understanding of patient care, realizing that MammoLink’s success isn’t quantifiable in mere numbers.

What’s an innovative business idea you’re willing to share?

I see a great opportunity in ‘Medical Professional Assistants.’ These assistants would manage physicians’ schedules and communications, addressing the critical issue of time management in healthcare, which often leads to medical errors.

What’s the best $100 you’ve recently spent?

Investing in Blinkist was highly beneficial. This platform offers condensed books on personal growth and success, which I enjoy during travels or downtime, providing a much-needed escape.

Is there a particular software or web service that enhances your productivity?

Todoist is invaluable. It synchronizes tasks across team members, fostering accountability and efficient communication. It’s an effective tool for organizing tasks and ensuring team focus.

Which book would you recommend to our community?

‘Who Moved My Cheese?’ by Spencer Johnson, MD, is a must-read. It adeptly addresses adapting to change, a crucial skill for any entrepreneur. The book’s insights are incredibly relevant and inspiring.

Do you have a favorite quote that guides you?

“Good business is often bad medicine. However, good medicine is always good business.” This mantra encapsulates MammoLink’s ethos, emphasizing the primacy of quality healthcare and patients over profits.

Dr. Ryan Polselli has embarked on a career journey dedicated to enhancing breast imaging services. His insights reflect a deep understanding of the healthcare industry’s challenges and opportunities. His entrepreneurial spirit, coupled with a patient-first approach, makes him a true innovator in the field. MammoLink, under Dr. Polselli’s guidance, continues to break barriers, ensuring that quality healthcare is accessible and patient-focused. Dr. Polselli’s story is not just about medical advancements; it’s about a commitment to making a tangible difference in people’s lives.
