Mumu Fresh & Forces of Nature Dance Theatre to Collab at Apollo’s Kwanzaa

The Apollo Theater is gearing up for an electrifying celebration this December 30th, spotlighting GRAMMY-nominated singer and songwriter, MC Mumu Fresh, as a special musical guest collaboration with Abdel Salaam’s Forces of Nature Dance Theatre. This annual event, known as “Kwanzaa: A Regeneration Celebration,” promises a profound experience steeped in cultural significance and the collective joy that defines this holiday for the Black community.

A Fusion of Culture and Artistry

Mark your calendars for the festivities on Saturday, December 30th, featuring two spectacular shows: a matinee at 2 pm and an evening performance at 7:30 pm EST. The Apollo is set to host the event with performances headlined by the distinguished New York-based dance company, Abdel Salaam’s Forces of Nature Dance Theatre. Known for their innovative blend of contemporary modern, West African, house, and Hip Hop dance styles, the troupe will set the stage ablaze.

Joining Forces of Nature Dance Theatre is the Harlem Children’s Zone Youth Arts Academy of Dance and Wellness, enriching the celebration with the vibrant energy and talent of young performers.

Embracing Traditions, Nurturing Community

For over four decades, The Apollo has devoted itself to commemorating Kwanzaa during the seven-day celebration of African American culture. This cherished tradition has provided a sacred space for the community to delve into the seven fundamental principles, known as the Nguzo Saba, fostering reflection and a renewed dedication to advancing the lives of families, communities, and the Black population at large.

Tickets for this culturally enriching experience start at $25 and can be purchased via www.ApolloTheater.org or directly from the Apollo Theater Box Office. Additionally, the Apollo’s Half off for Harlem program extends a generous 50% discount on tickets to Harlem residents, employees, business owners, and students.

Exploring the Essence of Kwanzaa

Originating in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga, Kwanzaa stands as a response to the commercialization of Christmas, emphasizing community-building and reflection. Running from December 26 to January 1, this observance centers around seven core principles—Umoja (unity), Kujichagulia (self-determination), Ujima (collective work and responsibility), Ujamaa (cooperative economics), Nia (purpose), Kuumba (creativity), and Imani (faith).

The Apollo Theater: A Beacon of Artistic Expression

Steeped in history, The Apollo Theater holds a revered status as the heart and soul of American culture. Its legacy spans nurturing emerging talents and propelling legends into stardom. From its inception, The Apollo has been a hub of innovation and a dynamic catalyst for Harlem, New York City, and the global artistic landscape.

In February 2024, The Apollo is set to open The Apollo Stages at The Victoria, introducing two new theater spaces and initiating the historic renovation of its own Historic Theater. This marks the first-ever expansion and renovation in the nearly 90-year history of The Apollo, solidifying its ongoing commitment to artistic evolution and community enrichment.
