Who is Designer Jenée Dionne? #OfficialHype2.0

Who is Jenée Dionne?

Jenée Dionne is a mother, free spirit, lover of life, survivor, lover and a fighter who is striving to build a legacy. I am fearless and ambitious viewing life through the lens of an optimist.

What’s happened in your career that makes you feel this is the industry for you?

The turning point in my career and life was January 29, 2012, the day my 7-year-old daughter, DaVae, passed of a severe asthma attack. Not only had this day forever changed life as I knew it, but out of devastation I found myself unable to continue on in business. At the time, my three children and I would handcraft jewelry together, which became our family business. But after losing my daughter, I could no longer bring myself to create jewelry because it was something my children and I had done together. I realized during that time that I needed an outlet and sewing became my therapy. Initially, I began teaching my oldest daughter, Donyae, to sew as she was interested in fashion design. Ever since then I’ve never wanted to stop using creative energy to express myself. Designing and creating fashion represents freedom.

What makes you stand out in the Fashion Industry?

I strive to represent a brand of elegance that aims to make women glow with radiant confidence. My approach to fashion differs a bit. Although I am very shy and humble, my ambition drives me to remain the quietest person in the room, meanwhile making the loudest statement with my gowns.

Who in the industry today, could you see yourself working with and why?

To be honest, I’m always eager to work! I respect every artist because it takes real grit to share your vulnerability for the world to see when showcasing your craft. I would love to work with the likes of Tyra Banks because part of what makes her beautiful is her fearlessness, as she embodies and symbolizes a realness and strength of self-awareness and self-acceptance. I would love to see her radiate her beauty in a couture gown created by me.

What trends do you see being huge this Spring/Summer 2016 Season?

One thing I will say is there are some time periods that will never go out of style, and you can expect to see more 70’s fashion in 2016, likely with suede. Shoulders will also be a point of accentuation on the runways of 2016. We can also expect to see very Victorian lace high-collar neck collars, puffy sleeves, ruffles and floral prints. That’s the beauty of the fashion wheel!

What should people expect from your upcoming 2016 lines?

Please expect the Polished Collection to be just that…polished! These gowns are exciting and beautiful with a goal a making a  woman feel and exude immeasurable beauty! I want women to embrace their beauty and feel empowered.

Is there anything you would like our readers to know?

I want people to know that every piece I create is made from pain, passion and the inspiration to be a role-model for my children who see their mother fighting to make a dream come true.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” moment…

Oh goodness..”Where they do that at?!” Well of the many moments that I’ve had that have taken me by surprise, the most recent one at a show happened while using my steamer to iron my gowns at a fashion show, I had an individual drop two shirts off apparently for me to iron. Apparently rather than being seen as the designer who came prepared for her showcase, my boyfriend who was helping me with my garments and I were both mistaken for assistants. Ironically it was more than one individual who made that assumption that evening.

About Jenée Dionne:

Jenée Dionne began her career in the fashion industry as a jewelry designer. As fate would have it, in 2012 her 7-year-old daughter, DaVae, passed away of a severe asthma attack. In an effort to be triumphant through tragedy she has found fashion design to be a sense of therapy. Alongside her daughter, Donyae, she created her first ready-to-wear collection in 2013, which incorporated her handcrafted jewelry into the apparel. Following this collection, she designed “The Goddess Collection,” a direct result of pain, passion and inspiration, which debuted at Orlando International Fashion Week 2014. The Grecian-style gowns chose her, as she admires the symbolism of ancient Grecian women that she believes is embodied by every woman. Taking strides and following up with the Red Carpet Collection, which debuted on the runway of LA Fashion Week 2015. Striving to make each piece better than the last, she continues to put her best efforts forward into her 2016 couture gown collection entitled Polished. Jenée Dionne is living by her motto “Embrace creative energy to empower others to make a statement of beauty.”
