Who is D’An of Model Haven Boutique? #OfficialHype2.0

Who is D’An?

Born in Richmond, Va. and raised in Northern Va. I am fifth generation Master seamstress, I started sewing at the age of 12 years. I would dress up in my mother’s clothes and come up with designs with my paper dolls. I found it easier to dress the way she wanted by turning my ‘hand me downs’ into fashionable outfits. I knew then that Fashion was my calling.

What’s happened in your career that makes you feel this is the industry for you?

Simply put– It’s my legacy. It’s in my blood. I seek inspiration from everything. A smell, taste, a feeling…nature, people, elements EVERYTHING!!! My goal is to be in a place where I can design and style clients all over the world full-time. I get a thrill out of seeing how a new outfit can change a person’s mindset about themselves. I want to be a part of that mental, physical, even spiritual transformation that fashion brings out of someone. For me, it’s not about the money or fame but the connection! Every time someone puts on a Portia Jacobs Design they can become who they truly want to be. Through fashion I can connect with the world one piece at a time.

What makes you stand out in the Fashion Industry?

Portia Jacobs Design is an exclusive clothing line sold at MHB. We aim to be your first choice in cutting edge, high-profile, exclusive fashions. Committed to individuality, our garments are either limited edition or one-of-a-kind pieces. Once an order is placed, each design is handmade and tailored to each customer’s specific measurements. This promises our customers to always wear eye-catching clothing with minimal chance that they would cross paths with another wearing that same style. One design fits a 0 to 22! So no matter your size or shape, our clothes are comfortable, fitted, flattering and classy. Our custom, hand sewn pieces will always celebrate refinement, elegance and creativity while providing exclusive designs for exclusive individuals.

Who in the industry today, could you see yourself working with and why?

Diane Von Fraustenburg. I love her work. She is the epitome of class and style. She brings out the sexy in a woman yet keeps said woman classy. I would love to work with her. Zuhair Murad is another amazing designer. When he is on the runway nothing else matters. His designs command a great power that I strive to possess.

What trends do you see being huge this Spring/Summer 2016 Season?

Think chiffon, flounces, off the shoulder, worldly influences (Italian/Spanish/European), plaid, fringe is still in of course. My favorite colors would be blue, white, cream, orange, rose and of course sherbet colors!

What should people expect from your upcoming 2016 lines?

I will be presenting in NYFW 2016 where I will be debuting my fall/winter line “Royal Tea”. It’s an updated take on royal families around the world and what they wear to events in which they always have tea! I love Haute Couture and themed lines. I hope to capture that in this line. There will also be a Royal Tea Mixer in May 2016 and a Major Royal Tea showing in June 2016 in Huntsville, Al.

Is there anything you would like our readers to know?

Many people confuse Model Haven Boutique as the designer line. It’s actually a boutique of services. If you’re in need of any services in the industry, we will link you with one that fits your aesthetic and budget. A Rolodex so to speak, filled with Artists, MUAs, Hairstylists, Designers, Photographers, Models, etc all around the world.

For all those dreamers out there: Keep that desire burning and move out on it. You will be blessed simply off that desire. Talent means nothing if you don’t have the desire. No matter what, have that drive to keep going after many disappointments. There will be many of them and you will not be prepared unless you are humble and grounded.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” moment…

I witnessed a designer who hadn’t shown up to any practices, model calls, etc come to a show 20 min before they were supposed to showcase their line on the runway. Didn’t have a clue what models they were gonna use and told everyone that they needed to sew the clothes on to the models, then asked if we could help them. Hems undone, pins still in the garments and they sent this down the runway and swore they killed the set!!! Where they do that at????
