As you see your self, who is Venomiss?

Venomiss is a writer, a thinker, a go-getter, and a strong woman. To me, Venomiss is old school Hip Hop meets new school approach. I’m straight forward in my thoughts and my music and I know I have a special gift in that.

Tell us about your current project?

Heiress of The Echelon is my first album to be put out officially so its really special to me. I had taken several years off of music due to family needs and its the first time returning to the mic, but its also the industry’s first serious look at me. The title itself is about taking your place among the ranks. That’s what I felt like I set out to do in my career. My goals have been to set myself apart from others and take my place with the artists that are still talked about 20 years later. It features 14 tracks, and its a banger from beginning to end. There’s something for the parties, there’s something for the lyricists, there’s something for the life-lessons too. There’s a lot of live instruments, both in the production by my Producer Eddie of Podium Muzik and my Engineer Sherome “Agent Midi” who also plays several live instruments himself. I wrote R&B, I wrote Poetry… there was a lot of diversity in the making of this album. Its been receiving great reviews online and I really enjoyed myself making this project.

What’s happened in your career that makes you feel this is the industry for you?

I’ve been doing music since I was about 17 seriously, and at one point at around 18 I came close to achieving what I’ve been able to achieve now. The problem was, I was too young to make sense of the business side of things.I’m a little older and wiser now, and the business just makes so much more sense now. I think the industry is ready for me now because the shift is coming to where lyrics matter again. The industry also has a shortage of females right now. Where back in the day you had 20 or more, now you have just a handful. I think the industry is ready for a female rapper revolution and i’m more than glad to be a part of it.

What makes you the next great happening?

The way I command on the mic. I get the mic in my hand and I just become a different person. I set out to do every event, every song, every show and interview as if its the last time I’ll do it. I do everything from the heart and the listeners and fans appreciate it. In 2015,I was nominated for an Underground Music Award in the category of Best Female Rapper which was a total surprise to be nominated days before the album released. From the album responses to the nomination, I feel like i’m serving up something the industry needs.

Are your currently signed to a label or have any situation in the making?

I am not signed, I am 100% self funded and 100% indie by choice. I’m not against getting a deal, but I want to make sure whatever situation I finally get into is the right fit for me and my brand.

Who and what are your influences?

My major influences in music are artists who maintain dope lyricism and individuality throughout the years. Notorious B.I.G, The Lox, Royce Da 5’9, Busta Rhymes, Fabolous, Jay-Z, Miss E Elliot, Nas are just a few artists in my rotation I keep in my rotation. I enjoy music so I can’t say I won’t give anything a chance. Also, life is a big influence too. Some of the best stories come from what I have seen or seen others go through. Something as simple as a word in a conversation can influence me to make a whole song about a topic.

What should people expect from your upcoming 2016 projects?

2016 is going to be a fun year. I have some shows already in the works on my Calendar through mid 2016 and the year hasn’t even begun! I am already working on album number two, I have several videos off of Heiress of The Echelon that I plan on shooting… who knows where I will land. Radio Hosting and acting have also crossed my desk too.

Is there anything you would like our readers to know?

Yeah, please go out and pick up a copy of Heiress of The Echelon on Google Play, Amazon, iTunes, Spotify and any other online retailer today, I hope it will change your perception on what a female rapper’s album is supposed to be all about. Its okay to like more than one female rapper, there are many different styles of female rap and its worth it to give others a try sometimes.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” moment…

My craziest “where they do that at” moment was when someone recently tweeted to me that he wanted to get me pregnant because he loved my music. I was so caught off guard when I was going through my mentions! Where they do that at?! I’ve heard of baby-making music but that’s a whole different ball game!
