The Urban Network Digital & Music Industry Quarterly Gearing Up for the Conference

The Urban Network Digital in conjunction with Music Industry Quarterly Magazine are returning with their Annual Music-Entertainment Conference, in San Diego, Calif., June 1-5, 2016. The venue for the 4 ½ day event will once again held at tropical-themed Crowne Plaza Hotel, 2270 Hotel Circle North, San Diego, CA 92108. Registration is $100 for the entire Conference. Hotel rooms are $149 per night plus tax.

This is the only event of its kind on the West Coast. Executive producers for the Conference are Urban Network Digital President Arthur Mitchell, Music Industry Quarterly Publisher David Mitchell, and Urban Network Digital Vice President Arthur Mitchell III aka DJ Artistic. Former Urban Network President Miller London will continue in his role as Conference Co-Chair.

The 2015 Urban Network Digital Conference was a spectacular confab with more than 1,000 people in attendance. This year’s coming 2016 event, which also happens to kick off Black Music Month, is expected to attract even more.

More than 100 top music industry professionals will be on hand to share their wealth of expertise and knowledge, participating in a dozen entertainment-related seminars, panels and workshops. The Conference is attended by radio programmers and mix show DJs, artist managers, entertainment attorneys, music publishers, performance rights organizations, music supervisors, trade groups, digital music strategists, film and TV consultants, bloggers, journalists & the like.

Nearly 100 independent & major label recording artists from various genres of music, ranging from R&B, Rap, Urban Alternative and Gospel, including several bands, are scheduled to perform over the 4 ½ day event. For the first time, the San Diego Black Film Festival will be partnering with the Conference to provide indie movie shorts, film screenings, along with discussions regarding Getting Your Music in TV & Film, and Video Production. Various Music Tech companies are slated to participate, as well as Sunday, the close out event, highlighting Fashion & Music. An annual tradition with the Conference, the Gospel Music Community will come together on Thursday, June 2 for a day of panels, and inspirational performances by national and local artists, choirs and a late night of Hip-Hop Gospel.

Friday, June 3; Saturday, June 4; and Sunday, June 5, will be the heaviest days and will feature a bevy of panel sessions featuring of the industry’s brightest minds, along with music showcases and performances by both emerging and established talent.

The 2015 topics and themes ranged from “The Many Facets of Urban Radio”; “Today’s Rap Music Game-How to Make Money in 2015”; “Back to Basics 2, What Every Artist Should Know”; “This New Era of A&R”; “A Songwriter/Producer’s Forum”; “Understanding the Convergence of Music, Marketing & Technology in a Connected Culture”; “Break The Internet: The Fundamentals of Getting Discovered and Building Your Brand Online”; “Decks, BPMs and Playlists: A DJ’s Power Panel”; and a special mentoring workshop presented by the Global Education Media Network, for select high school and college students with career aspirations in the music-entertainment industry.

Last year’s Panelists from the Radio/Broadcast community included: Doc Wynter, Sr. VP, Urban Programming, iHeart Radio, Program Director, Real 92.3/Los Angeles; Colby “Colb” Tyner, VP, Programming, Radio One; Maxx Myrick, Director of Operations, Program Director, WHUR-FM (Washington, D.C.); Joseph Dodd, Associate Manager of Programming, Music Choice; Aundrae Russell, Program Director, KJLH-FM, Los Angeles; Randy “R Dub” Williams, Fusion Radio, San Diego; DJ Amen, Young California DJs; DJ Bille Knight, Young California DJs, San Diego; Kevin Stapleford, Senior Director of Programming, Slacker Radio, and more.

On the creative and production side 2015 panelists included: Bobby Ross Avila (Usher, Janet Jackson, Gwen Stefani), Haze Banga (Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, Hit Boy), Midi Mafia (Fantasia, 50 Cent, Frank Ocean), and Vincent Berry (Karen Clark Sheard, Jeremih, Chrisette Michelle), along with a variety of innovative speakers, panelists that engaged in discussions on “Music Streaming Platforms,” “the Fundamentals of Building One’s Brand on the Internet,” and “Understanding the Convergence of Music, Marketing and Technology in a Connected Culture.” Among those panelists were journalist Julian Mitchell, a regular contributor for REVOLT.com, Huffington Post and Forbes.com; Media Personality Jen Deleon of SKEE TV/Dash Radio; UCLA School of Music Business Professor Nahshon Craig; Roslynn Cobarrubias of MyDiveo and Third Floor Network, Shante Merida of REVOLT-TV, and lots more.

Several major record labels, A&Rs and music publishing companies were represented at the 2015 Conference, including representatives from Warner Bros. Records, Interscope Records, RCA Records, Capitol Records, Notting Hill Music Publishing, Universal Music Group, iNGrooves Music, Roc Nation, the Chemists, Peer Music Group, Disney Music Group, Brand X, along with performance rights organizations ASCAP, BMI and SESAC, music trade organizations such as the Recording Academy® (producers of the GRAMMYS®), and various media companies.

The Music & Entertainment Conference 2016 is already generating a massive buzz, and is anticipated to build on the momentum and good will from the 2015 and 2014 events.
