Newcomer Atlanta Rap Artist Retro Takes Us Back

Detroit born rapper, Retro introduces himself in forthcoming album NINE1.  Adopting a distinct affinity for 90’s culture, rapper Retro is making waves. These instant throwbacks rip through your speakers.  The smooth transitions and funk vibe support the movement of a retrograde tone of hip hop. The vintage crafted LP was highly anticipate after releasing the West Coast inspired, “G-Like” single.  Retro has been gaining steam on Atlanta’s rap scene.  The Nine1 LP samples numerous classics such as  A Tribe Called Quest and Brandy.  The theme of this tape is without a doubt the golden era of hip hop.  From the underground parties circa Kid and Play, to the forty ounce and incense philosophers, or even The Fresh Prince swagger.  As Retro sits atop a red coupe beneath Miami Vice lettering.

This is timeless hip hop.  The nostalgic mix-tape delivers vibes of Wu-tang t-shirts, funky-fresh cuts even Hilfiger versus Lo Life’s.  The essence of Karl Kani sweatsuits and the illest Timberland boots, the sound of real rap executed flawlessly from a bi-coastal perspective. Although the artist Retro is virtually unknown his sound is booming. He highlights the best of an era with interludes using movies like Boyz in The Hood and crucial event segments.  Retro stayed in pocket to produce a sound that was innovative yet so familiar to classic hip hop heads.  He reminisces back in tracks like  “91 Immortal,”  “Brandy,” and “I Love NY.”  The track “Vibe” acts as a time portal to Bad Boy Records in 1997, sounding as if he’s straight off of a P.Diddy record.  He creates a lane of his own.  “Make It Last,” remixes Keith Sweat into a new age rap duet.  Retro illuminates the scene as both producer and rapper.  His debut album makes a statement.  In the spirit of Tribe, Check The Rhyme.
