HONEY RIVER was formed in 2017 by Joey Sykes, inspired by his many years  of Nashville writing trips, and a love for such Country Rock legends, like The Eagles, Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, and more recently, Keith Urban, Little Big Town, etc. Recent additions Jay Mags and Chris Vincent add their vocal and guitar talent, to make the HONEY RIVER sound.

Sykes has been amassing a large catalog of lyrically thoughtful, extremely hooky, relevant songs, such as “Peace, Love” including “Nobody Like Me”, “I Miss America”, and many more that have become their debut album soon to be released. These songs were written, both with some of Nashville’s “A-List” hit songwriters, and Joey Sykes alone, mainly in Nashville or Southern California. Sykes has the luxury of also being a producer, and owner of a recording studio.

Using classic instruments, such as Mandolin, Dobro, Pedal Steel, 12-string guitars, along with more commonly used piano, organ, real drums,  plenty of Guitars (mostly played by Sykes), and lots of vocal harmonies, the sound can be enjoyed by a wide age range of music lovers- country or rock, anywhere from 18 to 80! The band also had the incredibly fortunate honor of having the late Tom Petty’s drummer Steve Ferrone play drums on a few songs. On working with Ferrone, Sykes said in a recent interview with Rock & Blues Muse “That was epic! To have one of my idols’ drummer spin one of my songs after a Tom Petty song and refer to me as his friend- woah! Love to Steve and miss Tom”.

On putting the group together, he says “The idea of Honey River from day-one was to have three guys who can all sing, write, play different instruments and who will share lead vocals during the set,” notes Sykes. “It’s kind of a modern-day Eagles/Tom Petty/CSNY fusion. There will also be plenty of harmony during the verses. I love lyrics, harmonies, melodies, and cool stringed instruments.

With “Peace, Love” spreading over the airwaves, and their latest album “I Miss Americaset to drop soon, you can certainly expect more from Honey River as they continue to bring their infectious blend of country and rock to new heights!
