Joseph J Jones – Built on Broken Bones Vol.2

Joseph J. Jones follows his stunning debut album, Built On Broken Bones Vol.1, with the release of Built On Broken Bones Vol.2 via Communion Records. Vol.1 was praised by Clash, MTV, Boyfriend and The Music, and Joseph didn’t wait long to follow up with a second body of work, continuing the stories of urban entrapment, heartache, revenge, loss and hope that are so evident on Vol.1.

Built On Broken Bones Vol.2 delves further into Joseph’s striking songwriting abilities; from opener ‘The Morning’ to closing track ‘Broken Bones’, he lays himself bare and puts forth his take on modern society. Joseph’s vocals and lyrics shine throughout, in particular on the first offering from the album, ‘How Can I Make You Stay’.

Speaking on the album, Joseph said…

“Built On Broken Bones Vol.2 is as emotional as I am gonna get. If Vol.1 represents the night before then Vol.2 is the ‘head in the hands, nursing the comedown, morning after’ response. Grab a coke, that leftover KFC from the fridge, a bunch of ibuprofen and sit back and enjoy.”

Vol.1 track ‘No Mercy’ can be heard across Germany, having been chosen as TV station ARD‘s soundtrack to their winter sports coverage. Accompanied by radio play, Joseph’s popularity in Germany shows that the lad from the East End’s raw, honest songwriting connects on an emotional level, with demand in the country high for Vol. 2.

Joseph spent his adolescence as an amateur boxer in his native Hornchurch and then moved on from fighting to singing in the East End, cutting his teeth in football pubs and boxing clubs. He was spotted by Communion Records and soon after, the sombre debut single ‘The Video’ (both love song and commentary on mainstream club life from the outsider’s perspective) and the EPs and singles that followed quickly turned heads and placed Jones firmly at the crest of the UK’s alternative soul music movement.

In a testament to how broad a writer he has become, Joseph’s music to date has been played on Radio 1, Radio X, Kiss, Capital Xtra and more and he’s enjoyed playlist support from Radio 2 where he has performed live sessions for Dermot O’Leary and Zoe Ball. Joseph is at ease making mixtapes (check his ‘Tired Of The Weekend – V1 mixtape) and working with highly respected producers and remixers such as Gerd Janson, Jakwob and Embody. His collaboration with drum ‘n’ bass DJ Kove on his track “All Or Nothing” led to multiple plays on BBC 1Xtra. He also scored a top 75 Airplay hit in Germany where he’s also appeared on many radio and TV shows, and his tracks have been used in TV shows such as Love Island, TOWIE, SKY Football, Masters Golf and BT Sports Champions League coverage. Joseph is a die hard West Ham United fan.

A natural performer (he says getting on stage is nothing compared to the baying crowds of East End boxing rings), Joseph has toured the UK and Europe as a headline artist and has appeared at festivals including Latitude, Citadel, The Great Escape, Boardmasters, Reeperbahn and Neighbourhood Festival, as well as notching up millions of streams globally.
