Safia Mafia ft. Guapdad 4000 – Love Kills

Oakland’s rising singer/songwriter Safia Mafia has released her first full-length album Love Kills via Bay Area music powerhouse Empire. The sensually-whimsical and eclectic offering follows a naive, love-obsessed girl through a rocky relationship, and by album-end, she eventually learns to unapologetically love herself first.

The pop/R&B-fused album features production by Tyga’s Last King’s producer Bedrock, and also an appearance by fellow Oakland native, rapper Guapdad 4000 on the catchy lead single “Weed & Wine,” a relatable story of finding temporary happiness with your on/off again partner.

Safia explains to EARMILK, “‘Weed & Wine’ is the ‘morning after’ account of a night spent with your ‘it’s complicated.’ Sometimes we do things that go against our better judgment for moments of temporary happiness, especially in relationships. I wanted to talk about those moments in a lighthearted and fun way.”

The visual to the lead, which accurately encompasses the juxtaposition of the album’s theme, premiered on Live Nation’s Ones To Watch. There, Safia shares, “The ‘Weed & Wine’ video is a bright, colorful tour through a sh*tty ‘on again, off again’ relationship, complete with a cheating boyfriend and a group of homegirls there to help you shake him off and have a good time.”

Safia Mafia is managed by Bay Area native Francois Wiley, who built Kamaiyah’s career and turned her into a star. Prior to her latest album, Safia released an EP titled Innermission in 2018, for which critics dubbed her “the next Sia meets FKA Twigs-level star with major potential in the pop world.”
