About Tasha Smith
Born to a 15-year-old young single mom in Camden, New Jersey, Tasha Smith narrowly escaped a life distracted by drugs, violence, alcohol and the wrong type of men. She and her identical twin sister were no strangers to being bullied and learned to fight back quickly – Tasha’s purse staples were her hammer, lighter fluid, and matches. After dropping out of high school at 14-years-old she fell in with odd jobs until a miraculous test of faith when her grandfather passed away led her to a relationship with God once more. Tasha knew she needed to get out of Camden and moved to LA with her friend Tisha Campbell. Trying to break into stand-up comedy, Tasha moonlit as a stripper where she often tried out new material on customers – from the strip club to the comedy club she got her first big break on Boston Common and began taking acting classes. The lack of diversity in her classes led her to open her own studio to make classes more accessible to minorities in her community. The urge to direct led Tasha to self-produce and direct her first short film, she has since moved on to episodic and feature-length directing – established herself as a well-respected director in the entertainment industry.
