Exclusive Photo Recap: Nipsey Hussle Court Unveiling

Nipsey Hussle Court

On Sunday, April 14th at 3 pm the Nipsey Hussle Court at the non-profit charter school, Crete Academy, on 60th and Crenshaw in Los Angeles was unveiled. The mural is 46 x 78ft and was painted by Gustavo Zermano. He worked with Nick Ansom, CEO of Venice Basketball Leauge, to help bring the painting to life. Ansom and Nipsey had planned on developing more community projects, but sadly just blocks away from the location, we all know that Nipsey was violently murdered several weeks prior. The basketball court itself is painted Nipsey Blue surrounded by his signature checkered flag.

When Zermano was asked about the mural by NBC San Diego, this is what he had to say,

“When (Nick) asked me to be a part of this, I felt like I had to contribute something bigger, so that’s when I pitched the whole Nipsey thing, like actually painting him on the court. He was a big part of helping the kids, and when I heard it was at a school that’s when I was like, it’s for real.”

The afternoon was topped off by a showcase of pop n lock’n and breaking, followed by a Celebrity vs. Venice Basketball League game and a Dunk Contest. NFL Hall of Famer, Terrell Owens, was in attendance as well as rap artist Trinidad James.

Ermias “Nipsey Hussle” Asghedom’s dream of unity and uplifting the community is still a reality as the Marathon Continues.
