Beauty and grooming companies normally start with the superficial goal of creating products to enhance looks. For Abdul Golden, founder of Golden Grooming Co., the start of his business had nothing to do with grooming and everything to do with promoting a healthy lifestyle.
“What influenced my decision to go into grooming was healthy living in general. It had nothing to do with grooming. Things such as eating right and taking care of my body evolved into learning about how important the products men groom with are,” he says.
It’s with this ethos that the Detroit-based company provides high quality, all natural grooming products specifically designed for black men and other men of color. Golden Grooming Co. doesn’t want men to only look and feel good, but to empower them.
Creating all-natural, therapeutic products for the beard, body, face and hair at affordable prices, Golden Grooming Co. wants to inspire the everyday man to look as good on the inside as he does on the outside.
In addition to provide great products, the company believes in giving back, which is why five percent of all sales are donated to worthy causes that focus on at-risk youth and students at historically black colleges and universities.
What Does Each Contribution Do?
- Teach entrepreneurship in underserved communities – supports programs that empower young people with an entrepreneurial mindset so they can learn the lifelong skills of opportunity recognition, communication, critical thinking and problem-solving.
- Financial Support for Historically Black Colleges and Universities – financially assists the schools that lack funds, sophisticated fundraising infrastructures and the staff to advance these efforts.

About Golden Grooming Co.: Men of color have unique needs and wants that the broader market hasn’t addressed regarding health and beauty and CEO and founder, Abdul Golden realized this gap while preparing for a business trip. Going store to store to find his favorite grooming products, he noticed there wasn’t a single store that carried all of his preferred products, and as he thought more about it, he also realized that even his favorite products weren’t quite good enough. It was from his research and observations that Golden Grooming Co. was born in December of 2017.
