sobhhï Drops Self-Directed Video Shot in Dubai for ‘2019 Freestyle’

Dubai-based alt-R&B singer/rapper sobhhï has today released a new music video, for his 2019 freestyle. sobhhï directed the video himself & had some words to share about the sentiments behind the track and visual:

“On A Tribe Called Quest’s record “Jazz”, Phife Dawg (RIP) says “it’s 1991 and I refuse to come wack.” Decades later, I’m reflecting on how that’s exactly how I feel about 2019. This is the opening scene of the video. This track was self-produced, using 90’s breakbeats and sampling a voice note recorded directly to my iPhone. The full mix was run through 30IPS tape to give it a Lo-Fi vintage feel.

Filmed in Dubai, New York City, and San Francisco, the video “2019 freestyle” is a foray into the NUIT SANS FIN movement. I directed this video with the intention of amalgamating themes of luxury streetwear, nocturnal life, and metropolitan culture in a neo-noir montage with break beats and lazy raps playing the role of soundtrack. This video is a summary of who we are, what we’re pursuing, and all the moods in between.”

Just like the song itself, the video has a nostalgic feel to it with the black and white filter with an occasional splash of color to simulate the vibrant Middle Eastern lifestyle. sobhhï emphasizes this lavish and extravagant lifestyle in the video, shown hanging out with models and recklessly driving a Lamborghini, encompassing a feeling of reckless abandon. The 2019 freestyle is an unofficial introduction to sobhhï’s recently launched record label & streetwear brand: NUIT SANS FIN (which translates to “night before end”). The video was shot in San Francisco, New York City and Dubai; 3 cities that reflect the luxurious prosperity of NSF.

Check out the 2019 freestyle video below & stay on the lookout for more releases from sobhhï in the latter half of 2019.
