Eva Longoria, Gabrielle Union, Dwyane Wade, Magic Johnson Gather to Raise $700,000 for Autism and Parkinson’s
The stars came out in droves to support the 21st anniversary DesignCare Gala, produced by actress Holly Robinson Peete and her husband Rodney Peete through their nonprofit organization, The HollyRod Foundation (HRF). Gabrielle Union, Dwyane Wade, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Tina Knowles-Lawson, Essence Atkins, Candace Cameron Bure, Angela Lewis, Boris Kodjoe, Maureen McCormick and Kim Coles were among the celebrity attendees that gathered to benefit those with autism and Parkinson’s disease, raising close to $700,000. The earrings Beyoncé wore in her “Spirit” Lion King anthem music video were auctioned off for $25,000.
The 2019 DesignCare Gala took place on Saturday, July 27th and featured musical performances by musical prodigious savant Kodi Lee (“America’s Got Talent”) and legendary and iconic band Cameo, as well as a fashion show by designer Pamella Roland who displayed her whimsical and gorgeous pieces from the Resort 2020 collection. The gala honored Eva Longoria (Actress/Philanthropist)with the “HollyRod Humanitarian Award,” Areva Martin (Civil Rights Attorney) with the “Angel on the Path” Award, Jimmy Choi (“American Ninja Warrior,” Advocate for Parkinson’s) with the “Matthew T. Robinson, Jr. Award of Courage,”Kalin Bennett (NCAA Basketball Player w/ autism) with the “HollyRod Hero Award,” Kodi Lee (blind singer w/ autism) also with the “HollyRod Hero Award,” and Cigna with the “HollyRod Corporate Compassion Award.”
Guests arrived at SaddleRock Ranch in Malibu, CA to enjoy Ciroc and Deleon sponsored cocktails and silent auction bidding all under the stars of the beautiful and clear night. The evening featured an array of culinary delights by global lifestyle hospitality company, sbe and its restaurant brands Katsuya, Cleo, Fi’lia, Carna and Umami Burger. Wen by Chaz Dean provided a generous supply of hair products for luxury take-home gift bags.
