Hit-Boy Teams Up With His Dad Big Hit For New Album Surf Or Drown 2
Kicking off Father’s Day Weekend, GRAMMY Award-winning producer/recording artist Hit-Boy teams up with his dad Big Hit to release SURF OR DROWN 2 – the sequel to SURF OR DROWN, which was released three months ago. Listen HERE via Surf Club. SURF OR DROWN 2 includes features from fellow trailblazing artists Big Sean and Dom Kennedy, as well as up-and-comer Garren.
Last month, Big Hit was released from prison after serving a 9-year sentence thanks in part to the work of the Digital Activism platform COMMUNITYx led by Founder/CEO Chloe Cheyenne. He celebrated by going to the studio and making music with his son. SURF OR DROWN 2 is a precursor to Big Hit’s solo album produced by Hit-Boy.
SURF OR DROWN 2 adds to Hit’s busy slate of releases so far in 2023, which includes March’s Victim and Villains (with Musiq Soulchild), and the first installment of his dynamic series. Not to mention, he executive-produced Belly’s new album Mumble Rap 2 which dropped last month (May 19), and Benny the Butcher’s highly-anticipated Everybody Can’t Go – arriving August 11.
Previously, Hit-Boy broke the news of SOD2’s arrival on Twitter while simultaneously introducing the pre-released single “Reckless & Ratchet” with his dad, Big Hit – who’s also featured on the tracklist cover. The raunchy and explosive offering arrived alongside a NSFW visual that gives new meaning to the song title.
The 10x GRAMMY-nominated and 3X GRAMMY-winning multihyphenate continues to push the culture forward in a way that only the man born, Chauncey Hollis knows how. Whether he’s rapping over his own beats, or lacing his contemporaries with next-level instrumentals, Hit-Boy has cemented his position as one of the most sought-after collaborators of this generation. Hit-Boy is on a tear making tons of music for himself and his father, all while balancing being a full-time father to his son C3, lacing the best artists in the industry with beats, and composing entire albums for multiple artists a year.
KEEP UP WITH HIT-BOY:
As one of the music industry’s most sought-after producers and artists, California-bred Hit-Boy has more than earned his moniker. Born Chauncey Hollis, 4x GRAMMY Award-winning multi-hyphenate artist from Pasadena and the neighboring Inland Empire, boasts an impressive roster of credits, from wielding pop smashes for Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Ariana Grande to producing hit records for Jay-Z, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, and more over his thirteen plus years in the industry. As a rapper and songwriter in his own right, Hit-Boy has recorded and released seven mixtapes and three collaborative albums. Recently earning a GRAMMY for Nas’ King’s Disease (Hit served as an executive producer on the ‘Best Rap Album’), the super producer has earned his first-time GRAMMY nomination for the ‘Producer of the Year’ category in 2021. He has racked up several additional accolades, including ‘Producer of the Year’ at the 2020 and 2021 BET Hip-Hop Awards, ‘Producer of the Year’ at the XXL Awards, ‘Outstanding Producer of the Year’ at the 2021 NAACP Image Awards, and Complex’s ‘Best Hip-Hop Producer Alive’ of 2020. He recently served as executive producer for Nas’ King’s Disease (GRAMMY winner), and the series’ subsequent releases (KD II & KD III), Big Sean’s Detroit 2 (debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200), produced ‘Thique’ on Beyoncé’s latest project, Renaissance, and served as the soundtrack curator for Madden NFL 23. Not to mention, he just released a joint album (Victims & Villains) with Musiq Soulchild.
