Bayside Announces The Interrobang Tour & Opener Contest

September 24, 2019 – Fresh off of Friday’s album announcement, renowned punk act Bayside is taking fans by surprise yet again with the news of the upcoming The Interrobang Tour. A series of small club shows that see the band playing some of their smallest rooms in years, The Interrobang Tour kicks off on November 6th and features special guests Sincere Engineer and Capstan. Presale and VIP tickets are available now at bayside.shofetti.com. General on-sale begins this Friday, September 27th.

Additionally, for the first time ever, Bayside is giving fans the power to decide who will be performing alongside the legends on their upcoming tour. Over the next few days, they are inviting unsigned, non-touring bands to submit themselves for the opportunity to open at their local show date (please note that submissions will not be accepted for Huntington, NY show). Fans will then be able to vote for who they would like to see perform, with one band being selected for each show. On the decision to put together this contest, frontman Anthony Raneri shares:

When we were starting out as a band, there were a lot of times that it felt like our wheels were spinning. We felt like we were trying so hard and often felt like we weren’t gaining any ground. What helped us to keep moving forward were the glimmers of excitement and validation that would come every once in a while. Someone on the street telling you they liked your band or a band you played with telling you that you sounded good. Nothing ever made us feel like we were on the right track than getting a chance to play a well-attended show to a room full of people. A real opportunity to play your songs and be your best because if you can make that room full of people smile, it could be the validation or the spark that a band needs to know that they’re on the right track.

We put this contest together to try and give 29 different bands that jolt of energy that we felt like we needed at times. A chance to play your songs and be your best in front of a room full of people

The rules are pretty simple, we are only accepting submissions from bands that are not signed and aren’t touring. The definition of those things are at our discretion. That’s pretty much it. We won’t disqualify any bands based on genre or even our opinions of them. If you are a local, unsigned band, you are welcome to be a part of the contest.

The contest is fan voting. This means that your fans or friends will come and vote and whoever gets the most votes will open the show in their city. The contest will live on the Bayside website for everyone to see with links to all of the band’s music. We encourage our fans to listen to these bands that are working hard and give them a shot. If you’re a Bayside fan just heading to our site to pick up tickets or the new record, we would love for you to listen to at least the bands that are submitted for your city and vote. You may find your new favorite band right in your backyard.

“Pay to play” has become a popular term to describe the practice of local bands having to either buy on to bigger shows or sell advance tickets to earn their spot. This isn’t a that. We have always tried to treat every band that opens for us as a valued member of the show or tour. Everyone deserves to be there and we are thankful for everyone there whether they are in the crowd, on the stage or working the box office. You will be paid to play. You can set up merch. You can soundcheck.

The Interrobang Tour will be bringing Bayside across the US in support of the band’s 8th studio album, Interrobang. Fans were first given a taste of bolder, brasher music with lead single “Prayers.” Last week Bayside took things one step further with the announcement of their new album, Interrobang, and the music video for the record’s title track. Out October 4th, 2019 via Hopeless Records, Interrobang is a shock-and-awe of riff-heavy rock tunes. Watch the brand new video and pre-order the record now at baysidebayside.com.

For the past 20 years, the Queens-based, Bayside has represented a lifestyle, a counterculture, and a deeply held conviction, diverse in thought and background but united by a shared desire for authentic expression. At their core, Bayside is a band that has constantly proved that music is not about gimmicks and ephemeral trends, but a timeless reflection of our lives and our times. It is through this timelessness and consistency that they continue to cultivate a cult-following that lives and breathes everything the band creates.

Interrobang is a punctuation mark that combines an exclamation and a question mark. For Raneri, the title represents the feelings the band’s 8th studio album invokes from the listener. “We wanted the record to feel exciting and new, but also sound like a natural progression for the band,” Raneri explains, “We just wanted to keep the listener on their toes – there is a ton of information being thrown out – and if you want to take it all in – you can’t stop paying attention for a second.” The result is the heaviest rock album of the band’s career juxtaposed with the most catchy, melodic hooks the band has ever created.

Working with acclaimed producer, Cameron Webb (NOFX, Motorhead, Alkaline Trio), the band embraced his eclectic résumé and pushed the boundaries of what a Bayside song could sound like. “Cameron (Webb) has worked with a really wide range of artists, from NOFX and Lagwagon to Kelly Clarkson to Motorhead and Megadeth,” Raneri shared, “We thought it would be perfect to work with (him) because we see ourselves as sitting somewhere in between all of those artists.”

Bayside has always focused on creating songs that are relevant to people who want substance, rather than being relegated to one genre. With Interrobang, the band has put together an eclectic, inspiring, and bold collection of songs. Raneri shares, “Love it or hate it, we wanted the record to invoke something in people. We said with this record we either wanted to create something great or fall on our faces. Negative or positive, we just didn’t want the record to be ‘fine.’” While many bands would coast on their past success, Bayside rejects the premise and proves with Interrobang, out October 4, 2019 via Hopeless Records, that the best is yet to come.
