Casey Reynolds – The Way That I Am

Casey Reynolds is new to the R&B, alternative hip-hop scene, but his music makes it seem as if he’s been doing this for years….. and in a way he has. Reynolds newest EP, The Way That I Am, released September 24th and officially established the young artist as “one to watch”. Now that we’ve been introduced to his smooth vocals, fluid raps, and modern mix of sounds, we can’t get enough of what he has to offer.

The title track provides a smooth introduction that sets the listener up for the journey Reynolds has planned for them. A catchy chorus gets us feeling too cool for our own good with the singer’s smooth voice guiding us through. “Wishing Wells” brings us into a dimmed room as Reynolds lowers the mood. At this point, we start to notice the pattern of synths with Reynolds’ voice throughout the EP that seamlessly ties together each track. He maintains the integrity of his natural voice, while showing the skill it takes to compliment sounds with a robotic technique.

We start feeling way too cool once again with “Anxiety” as it gives us a wired beat layered with bright vocals. “Partially” serenades us with beautiful harmonies that float over a guitar track. This song shows the listener that Reynolds knows how to lift us up with not only a confident rap, but also in a stripped down acoustic setting. Through and through, The Way That I Am is the perfect sidekick for a car ride where you’re feeling yourself or just a chill night in.
