‘Infectious Soul Music’: Pearl Cutten Releases Video for Single ‘The Pain in You’
Previously compared to the likes of Erykah Badu and Sade, Pearl Cutten’s new single, The Pain in You, has even been described as “infectious soul music with a sprinkle of jazz lounge thrown in for good measure”. The song tackles the reality of being in an abusive relationship, but enforces that self love is the answer.
Originally born in Botswana, the singer originally took up music as a distraction from the loneliness she felt, but it soon came to mean much more as she saw it as her vocational calling. Pearl has always kept strong ties with her African roots, Botswana taking her and her perfected soul, afro and jazz music to their hearts.
The tarot-based music video, is centered around the different personalities and characters shown by the cards, taking on themes of seduction , deception and transformation. It highlights Pearl’s personal lyrics, and spiritual outlook, and seems an artistic reflection of the topic of her song, the ultimate result of the cards reading as ‘Illumination’ and ‘Birth of a Queen’.
