Who Is Dayvid?

Back Story – 21-year-old singer and songwriter DAYVID is a San Diego native.  As a child he sang in a church choir, and in high school began dissecting popular music to understand its construction. At 16, he began commuting to Los Angeles to find a path into the music industry and soon found success writing music for artists including Fedde le Grand and Navarra. At 18, DAYVID moved to Los Angeles to pursue a full-time music career. Wanting to remain independent, he assembled his own music team of collaborators, and released his debut single “Sure of Me” in Fall 2018. He began a collaboration with Grammy-nominated Morgan Taylor Reid soon after, which spawned the well-reviewed single “VHS” in Spring 2019 and the current single “Wasted Luv,” from his debut EP, “Dayvid.”

The Hype Magazine got Dayvid to weigh in on a few things!

From the outside looking in, who is the artist Dayvid?

For better or for worse, I’m a perfectionist who won’t stop until every detail is as good as we can make it.  I have spent years finding my voice and honing the messages I want my music to

communicate. With any pursuit of excellence, there are ups and downs, rewards and disappointments.  So I am grateful to be where I am now.

What brought you to the entertainment industry, music specifically?

Good music is entertaining, but it is also art that speaks to people about life.  Music reached me when I was very young, and I decided that I wanted to be an artist that created music.  So I have worked hard to learn the music creation process. I’m still growing and learning, but I have created music that expresses my thoughts and feelings. I hope it will speak to others.

You took the path of remaining independent, what does the success of your debut project mean for you?

I decided that I wanted to create my own music my own way.  So I assembled my own team of experts in the many disciplines needed to create high-quality music and supporting visuals and other creative content.   I do a lot myself.  It is extremely rewarding to create and own art with a team I selected and led.

Tell us more about your current project and what we can expect from you in 2020?

I just released my debut EP, self-titled “Dayvid.”  This is an eclectic collection of six songs that range across different musical styles that have influenced me.  The EP is a taste of what is to come on my upcoming debut album.  My 2020 goal is to release this album and tour to reach as many people as I can.

For new listeners, what song of yours would you pick as an introduction to you as an artist?

Each song on the EP expresses a different layer of me.  To know me as an artist, you need to know all of these layers.

Tell us a bit about your work and passions OUTSIDE of music…

My work is my passion, so most of my social life is with the members of my team.  But when I have the time, I enjoy catching up with the lives of old friends from outside the music industry.
