A Q&A With Louisville’s Rising Hip Hop Artist: BigMoney Markie

Marcus Russell, better known as BigMoney Markie, is a Louisville-based Hip Hop artist who is currently building steam for his upcoming project with Interscope Records. The 19-year-old rapper uses his music to communicate to fans what’s really going on in his city. His magnetic charisma and melodic flow are undeniable and we had a chance to sit down to discuss his upcoming project, his favorite artists as well as how he got his start in music.

How did you get your start in music?

In 2018 after High School my Big Kousin told me its time to take music serious so I did! He produced “in my flesh” ft Lil durk.

Tell us about your upcoming project “TRAPION”. What can fans look forward to?

“Trapion, I bought da Rolex For da Trophy” – I feel like we made it out the Trap house !!! Through the storm and all ! We champions of the Trap! My fans/people this my tape no features all heat for the people who been rocking with me n if it’s new to you, wish u could’ve stay locked we taking ova like corona!

Tell us a little bit about your creative process. Do you write lyrics first or find a beat first?

I go in the studio vibe for like a hour! Catch the vibe! Run through beats. Whichever one got that TrapBaby sound ! I’m in the booth of the brain! I don’t write because I talk what I live . So I let my soul speak.

Who are some of your favorite artists out right now?

Meek Mill! And Rest In Heaven to my brother JuiceWrld.

Tell us a little bit about your background; where are you from and who were your musical influences growing up?

I come from Louisville Ky , Eastend side Smoketown. All I’m around is hustlas n murder so I knew I wanted to make a change and be a boss no matter what state or country! They gone know wassup wit TrapBaby. Growing up I listened to Boosie and lil Wayne!! They thuggin like us! Meek got me through all my teenage stages.

How have you been spending your time during quarantine?

It’s depressing , but I just bool with my son and continue building my legacy. We already know how to survive through times like this. So I’m just stayin focused on the Empire.

Do you believe that artist’s have an obligation to be role models?

Not all artists have to or even can be. I’m a great role model! Big speaker! Will never lead you wrong! All my Ogs lead my wrong! Soo ima show y’all the right way! But I’m still human! Everybody make mistakes.

What else do you have planned for 2020? What can your fans look forward to?

More music, more Money, more businesses, all 2020 I’m focused on the Empire!
