London Alt-R&B singer Rasharn Powell drops new single, Smithereens

London Alt-R&B artist Rasharn Powell is set to release his new single ‘Smithereens’ on 21st May. Following his recent single ‘Joyride’, ‘Smithereens’ is in collaboration with AB001, the artist moniker for producer Alessandro Buccellati, who has produced for the likes of Mike Sabbath, Kyle Lux, Tender, and Cailin Russo.

The song is full of melodies on hurt, heartbreak and freedom demonstrating a knowledge only someone who’s lived it can express. It’s R&B textures, funk grooves and soulful vocals embody elegance whilst creating the DNA for a summer jam.

“‘Smithereens’ was born from a level of uncertainty, on the border of unrequited love and freedom. It’s my account of the unease going through heartbreak to how I felt once past it. Rasharn

When speaking further about his inspiration for ‘Smithereens’, Rasharn said:

“A coming-of-age track, something I’d probably play after watching Mid90’s or Blue is the Warmest Colour. “Smithereens” whisks me into my past to remind me of who I’ve become, a journey through trials and tribulations… Summers of biking everywhere with my friends from dawn till dusk, the song is a segment of my life’s soundtrack.”

Rasharn’s musical entry point started young when his grandad introduced him to dancehall and dubplates. In later years he got lost in literature, he discovered poetry before songwriting and now draws inspiration from the likes of James Baldwin, Marlo Morgan as well as Bon Iver and Andre 3000.

Continuing to carve out his own lane, Rasharn’s songwriting abilities prove that he is one to watch.
