“Umami Mami is a song about sushi…kinda… at least that is what I am telling my dad. To be honest I was a little buzzed and pretty hungry during this session. Grant Saylor asked what I wanted to write about and I turned my notebook around that read “Mango sticky rice” and “Pink Sake”. Grant said “we could write a song about sushi?” and I said “Yup”. As I started to write, the very obvious euphemism kinda smacked me right in the face. Alex Kinsey, Grant and I immediately ran to 7-11 to buy a bottle of Sake and Grant purchased some 7/11 sushi and we came back to the studio and walked out about 6 hours later with Umami Mami. This is thee most “ME” feeling track I have ever been a part of and it felt really good to lay this one down.” – Ilana Armida
