Valencia King Talks Working in Media
Valencia King is more than a pretty face. She has received numerous awards for her work in the Broadcast Journalism field as well as a Motivational Speaker. She has received the Aspiring Professional of the Year Award and The Voice of the Freshman Interns from Student Government Association from University of North Texas, The Home Depot and Texas Legends Foundation Home Town Hero Award, NTMCC Community Outreach ward and 2 Image Awards from the Garland NAACP Council for her Community Service/Involvement in Educational Excellence just to name fare.

King is a graduate of the University of North Texas. She is also very in tuned with the current events that surround her. For example when King asked James Harden to speak about the moment of silence to remember the victims of Santa Fe High School that lost their lives last Friday. As King says, it’s definitely “More than just basketball” and James would strongly agree to that notion with his response to King’s question following the game five victory of the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals.
“Yeah man it is extremely emotional what those kids had to go through and we can only imagine how devasted that they were just to be in that position. So, we wanted to come out and give them light and put smiles on their faces… kind of clear their minds a little bit there is a lot of crazy things that go on in this world we just have to be better.”- Says Harden.
I can personally attest to King’s work ethic; I was in the Dallas Maverick’s Locker room this past season and had the opportunity watch her deliver questions just like the one in the post-game video. She is always ready to go when the lights are on and never misses a beat. Just because the name on her microphone doesn’t say ESPN, TNT, Bleacher Report AP, Fox, or CBS Sports to name a few – Does not mean that she is not qualified to be in that locker room. In fact, there has been times where her line of questions has sparked ideas for individuals affiliated with those organizations. Through her platform Real Talk Sports with Valencia King she provides an avenue to highlight, promote, educate the youth and young adults doing positive things in the community. King is committed to the youth so much so that she’s even been called upon to teach Radio Broadcasting at Park South YMCA with the support from Former NFL Star Charles Haley.
Throughout the NBA post season King hasn’t been covering the games alone, she’s been joined by Chastity Bailey of Big Game Christian Sports Network. Bailey also has a love for sports and received her degree from University of North Texas with 2 BA’s in Communication Studies & Social Sciences. Bailey is also seen in the video with King & discussed quite a bit in the comments. Although Bailey isn’t on video asking a question she knows the game/sport like the best of them and she too deserves to be there.
