Peter $un Proves He’s A Force For Good With Vibrant New Album ‘Scumbaby’ + Visual For “Work”

Richmond, VA born-and-bred artist Peter $un shows us what it’s like to be relentlessly positive in the midst of a crisis with the debut of his sophomore album ‘Scumbaby’. The project, released through Mind of a Genius Records, was inspired by his hometown roots growing up in Southside Richmond, Virginia and the duality of “good” and “bad” in all of us.

It’s energizing production and Peter $un’s flamboyant delivery are to be truly savored. Peter’s new tunes on this 14-track album possess an empowering, upbeat energy that forces you into the present moment. ‘Scumbaby’ seeks to remedy the big changes we’re all experiencing in this current climate by forcing us to face ourselves. He’s a hood hippie who is outspoken about the love and unity to be found between people at this time and how beautiful it is to be black.

“The original idea for my album was to represent the duality of myself and us as human beings… Scum is considered the worst type of person ever (or filth) but a baby is the polar opposite, innocent and pure. At times we all can have scummy ways in our selfish race to become somebody on this rock. We also should embrace and accept the fact that we are always learning, growing, and know nothing.” – Peter $un

Alongside the album, he offers up an energetic and satirical music video for lead single “Work”. The visual is a creative action-parody fever dream of self-realisation and good vibes. The flow switches halfway through the song, breaking the entrancing momentum of the chorus for Peter $un to flex his bars before resuming to the earworm chorus.

Peter $un’s music combines a feel-good fusion of rap, jazz, and electronica dripping with soulful psychedelic. The new tunes radiate an empowering, upbeat energy that forces you into the present moment. He aims to remedy the big changes we’re all experiencing in this current climate by appreciating the little things, taking it a day at a time.

A self-proclaimed “scumbaby”, Peter $un is all about spreading love and self-expression through his eclectic sound. Over the years, his music had evolved just as much as he has. Leading up to his sophomore album debut, Peter $un dropped some heat with his premiere single “Sometimes”, followed by “100 Proof” featuring Guapdad4000, and his recent hometown tribute track “Wylin”. The Virginia native has since been featured on Zane Lowe and Travis Mills’ respective Apple Music Radio Shows, and been supported by the likes of Russ, Pusha T, SoundCloud and Shazam. His single “Sometimes” was also premiered by Apple Music executive and host, Ebro Darden. This October, ahead of his ‘Scumbaby’ album release, he performed at TheBasement, an artist showcase in Los Angeles, among rising talents  Ambré, Flo Milli, Kaash Paige, and G Herbo. He also brought fans to church with his recent show stopping performance for MyGuyMars’ #AfterChurchLA live quarantine stream. As a father and philanthropist, he is truly a man of the people and is setting his sights on bringing his brand of hippie sunshine to the masses.
