0Jody Porter On His Forthcoming Album “Waterways,” Life During COVID-19, Future Plans & More
I first learned about Jody Porter around 25 years ago from his work as lead guitarist in the band Fountains Of Wayne. After ultimately becoming a big fan of Fountains Of Wayne, I did my research and figured out that Porter was previously a major label recording artist with the band The Belltower. Digging further, I learned of Porter also being a solo artist in his own right, sometimes under the moniker Astrojet. In other words, the South Carolina native has made great rock music for decades.
Jody Porter’s most recent studio album was 2013’s Month Of Mondays, as funded via a Kickstarter campaign. His long-awaited followup is Waterways, as due out in early 2021. As someone who has had the pleasure of listening to Waterways — which Rolling Stone premiered a track from earlier this year — I can assure you that it is full of the layered guitars and laid-back vocal stylings that made Porter’s debut album Close To The Sun such a great listen for a shoegaze-rock loyalist.
On November 17, 2020, I had the pleasure of interviewing Jody Porter via Zoom, as embedded below. More on Porter and Waterways can be found online via www.facebook.com/jodyportermusic.
