YS Tekdinner and Psycho Sick Get Imaginative on New Mixtape ‘Tek It, Won’t Leave It’

South London rappers and NOSTANDARDS members YS Tekdinner and Psycho Sick have joined forces for a powerful nine-track alliance in the form of their new mixtape Tek It Won’t Leave It.

Produced in its entirety by North West Londoner Manny Dubbs, known for his work with rising stars of the UK alt rap scene including Kish!, Virgil Hawkins and M.I.C, the project spans a wide variety of soundscapes, delving into trap, drill, boom-bap and more.

For the most part, Tek It, Won’t Leave It serves as a gritty journey through violent fantasies, its name a nod to an oft-quoted scene in the classic Jamaican crime film Shottas. With Psycho Sick reminiscing on his recent stint in prison (“shit was light”) and YS confronting his inner struggle (“all I know is pain, I’ve got anger issues”), the project makes for a mostly fictitious but undoubtedly semi-autobiographical listen, with lighter moments on show too.

Rapper and co-producer dxvl lends a hand on the uptempo website exclusive “Deluxury”, while NOSTANDARDS’ own Squeeze is on mic duties on the LP’s opener, which finds three key members of the collective banding together over an ethereal production. A final feature comes in the form of a guest verse from the elusive DBA on the boisterous drill number “For a Tug”, a clear highlight from the project which has been racking up plays on the UK airwaves in recent weeks.

YS Tekdinner’s name may already be on your radar if you’re a close follower of the burgeoning UK rap scene, but after this project, Psycho Sick and Manny Dubbs should be too.
