Warrant’s Joey Allen On Future Warrant Plans, Almost Signing With Paisley Park, Goals & More

Cumulatively, beyond selling millions of albums, Warrant has scored 2 Top 10 Billboard albums and 5 Top 40 Billboard hits, with 5 top-ranking MTV videos also to the band’s credit. Musical trends may have come and gone since Warrant first ascended into the mainstream music scene in the late 1980’s, yet Warrant simply never stopped touring the world or putting out new music.

May 2017 brought another studio album from Warrant titled Louder Harder Faster, as featuring original members Erik Turner (guitar), Jerry Dixon (bass), Joey Allen (guitar) and Steven Sweet (drums) alongside singer Robert Mason (Ozzy Osbourne, Lynch Mob, Cry Of Love); Mason joined the Warrant folder well over a decade ago. Louder Harder Faster was produced by Foreigner bassist Jeff Pilson. It is melodic and hook-oriented as one would expect from the Los Angeles-based hard rock quintet.

On March 27, 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with Warrant lead guitarist Joey Allen via Zoom, as embedded below. Among the topics Allen and I discussed at length within our conversation:

– Warrant being the first hard rock band to do a lot of things
– Future touring and recording plans for Warrant
– What he still hopes to accomplish with Warrant
– Prince almost signing Warrant to Paisley Park
– Producer Beau Hill having very different recollections of making Cherry Pie and Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich than the members of Warrant
– Touring Europe alongside David Lee Roth
