0Single Review: Tai Mystique “Addy”
You know that feeling when you meet someone new, fall in love all overagain, and fight the urge to shout from the proverbial rooftops? Well,Tai Mystique has fully embraced that urge with her latest single ‘Addy’.It’s evident the Chicago-based singer is in the midst of a whirlwind love affair, given her previous single ‘Toxic’ also addressed the flood of emotion she’s feeling at present – rule of thumb is that music needs to be designed in an environment of toil and pain to become truly great. Mystique is bucking that trend, proving that positivity can pay dividends to her artistry.
The distant acoustic guitar intro echoes that of Justin Timberlake’s magnum opus ‘Cry Me A River’, but ‘Addy’ takes an altogether more sultry turn soon after. “What’s the addy?” she demands, not so much indicating but confidently declaring her intentions for where her evening with her new love interest is heading. It’s this swagger and self-belief that defines Mystique as an artist, who only began her solo career a short while ago but works it like she’s been solo for years.
“I can be a savage, but I really might let you have it.” She’s grown, she’s mature, and she’s perfectly channelled her influences (TLC, Kehlani, and Aaliyah seem pretty evident inspirations) into her own distinct, fierce brand of R&B. Tai Mystique gets what she wants, and what it looks like she’s going to get is major success.
