Live Session With Emmy Award-Winning Rick Sanchez on New Podcast Network Agua Media
Live Session with Emmy Award-winning content creator Richard (“Rick”) Sanchez, who, along with co-founder of the Latino Donor Collaborative (LDC), Solomon D. (“Sol”) Trujillo, announced the launch of Agua Media.
Agua is a new podcast network catered to the “New American Mainstream,” defined as the fastest-growing, most entrepreneurial demographic in America, largely driven by young English-speaking Latinos.
Part of three Peabody Award-winning teams, Rick Sanchez hosted the number one daytime show on CNN, was a host and producer at Fox News, Univision, and iHeart Radio, and was also the first U.S. Latino to host his own national newscast. “This demographic is turned off by a lot of the content out there because it doesn’t get who they are,” Sanchez says. “Agua’s mission is to present stories through a wider perspective, keeping with the needs of this vast and young mainstream economic force.”
I remember watching Rick on CNN and respecting his game as a journalist, not to mention the fact that he’s Latino surrounded by the “normal” looking news presenters during that time which was all the more impactful for me. I’m not Latino but Rick represented, for me, another minority conquering a space where we were more generally disregarded and less present. Ya’ll know what I mean! To be honest, at that time in my life, becoming a journalist was about the LAST thing on my mind, it was just important to see someone from outside the norm doing it as well as anyone I’d been exposed to previously.
NOW, those memories stand out even more as I’ve experienced my own journey elevating from “Tier 4” to “Tier 1” in the media space…whole other story but one of the reasons that a platform like Agua Media is so necessary and welcome. I could go on and on about the amazing Rick Sanchez and what he, his partner, and the team at Aqua Media are doing but you’ll have more fun learning about it if you tune in to our conversation below!
