0L.A. Guns’ Tracii Guns & Andre Relis On The New Film “Randy Rhoads: Reflections Of A Guitar Icon,” Future Projects & More
Randy Rhoads, the legendary guitarist known for his unmatchable guitar riffs, inarguably re-shaped rock’n’roll as the lead guitarist for Quiet Riot and Ozzy Osbourne. After forming Quiet Riot with bandmates Kelly Garni, Drew Forsyth and Kevin DuBrow in the 1970s, the band quickly became one of the most popular acts in the Los Angeles club circuit. However, their music failed to land them a legitimate record deal. After playing with Quiet Riot for around a decade, Randy received an opportunity to be the lead guitarist for Osbourne, the aforementioned former Black Sabbath singer. Rhodes played with Osbourne for a few short years — that period including co-writing and recording “Crazy Train” — before he was tragically killed in a plane crash in 1982 at the young age of 25.
The new film Randy Rhoads: Reflections Of A Guitar Icon was directed by Andre Relis, narrated by L.A. Gun’s Tracii Guns, and written and edited by Michael Bruining. It includes interviews with the likes of Rhoads’ mother Delores, Rhodes’ brother Kelle Rhoads, Laura “DuBrow” Mandell, Rudy Sarzo, Drew Forsyth, Eddie Van Halen, Lori Hollen, Jodi Vigier, Kim McNair, Brian Reason, Peter M. Margolis, Frankie Banali, John Donais, Joel Hoekstra, Bruce Kulick, Doug Aldrich, Gary Moore, Dweezil Zappa, George Lynch, and Ozzy Osbourne. Ultimately, it tells the little-known story of a Los Angeles guitar virtuoso whose influence can still be heard today. The long-awaited documentary is scheduled for a release on Friday, May 6, 2022 via all major digital and video-on-demand outlets, including Apple and Amazon.
On April 28, 2022, I had the pleasure of speaking with Andre Relis and Tracii Guns via Zoom, as embedded below. More on Randy Rhoads: Reflections Of A Guitar Icon can be found here and here.
