0Lake Bell & Sarah Cooper On The New Film “Summering,” Future Projects, Park City & More
In the new film Summering — as released nationwide to theaters today, August 12, 2022 — four best friends face the uncertainties of growing up and embark on their biggest adventure yet as their last summer before middle school comes to a close. Starring Lia Barnett, Lake Bell, Sarah Cooper, Ashley Madekwe, Madalen Mills, Megan Mullally, Eden Grace Redfield and Sanai Victoria, the film was an official 2022 selection of the Sundance Film Festival. And speaking of the Park City, Utah-based Sundance Film Festival, Summering was filmed around multiple locations within the state of Utah.
Summering aside, the film’s co-writer and director James Ponsoldt has been making films for the past 20 years, including the award-winning and critically acclaimed film The Spectacular Now. A Special Jury Prize winner at the Sundance Film Festival, that film was named one of the top 10 independent films that year by the National Board Of Review and was nominated for Independent Spirit and Gotham Awards. Most recently, Ponsoldt executive produced and directed the pilot and multiple episodes of Amazon’s upcoming series Daisy Jones & The Six, as starring Riley Keough, beyond his work on the Apple TV series Shrinking, which stars Jason Segel, Harrison Ford and Jessica Williams.
On August 9, 2022, I had the pleasure of speaking with Lake Bell and Sarah Cooper via Zoom, as embedded below. Conversation topics included Park City, Wet Hot American Summer and future projects. More on Summering can be found online by clicking here, here and here.
