SALIM” CASH” KHAN, Talks Master Class on “How to Start a Sold-Out, Niche-Based Restaurant in Any City of Market and Dominate the Competition.

Salim Khan, owner of The Spice House restaurant in Atlanta, is quick to tell you that he started out in the industry knowing absolutely nothing, and made all sorts of mistakes along the way. Well, that’s not completely true. A background in real estate and a job working as a car valet taught him how to talk to people and the importance of providing good service. But all the important big and little details of operating a restaurant, everything from negotiating with suppliers to keeping good people around, were beyond him, and he didn’t have anyone to go to for advice. So his first food venture failed. Now, Salim Khan wants to provide the support he never had for future entrepreneurs who have a dream of creating their own place plus the drive to make it happen. He’s now offering an online master class called “How to Start a Sold-Out, Niche-Based Restaurant in Any City Market and Dominate the Competition.”

The six-module program will present useful lessons in everything from finding funding to choosing a menu. Participants will learn the ins and outs of hiring good people – “building your dream team – plus choosing an ideal location, dealing with suppliers, getting the word out, and plenty of other helpful info. He uses his example to show that consistent, quality food is only part of operating a successful restaurant. First, it requires the right mindset. Planning requires looking closely at a community’s demographic and available culinary options, and then dialing in everything carefully from the location to the colors in the décor to the fonts in the menu. Starting a restaurant remains financially risky: most don’t last a year, and plenty more are gone by Year 5. With his online course, Salim Khan wants to help people make it for five years and keep going strong. He’ll also encourage them to look into the power of franchising, where a successful formula can be duplicated to bring in more revenue.

He uses The Spice House as an example of doing things right. Since opening in 2017, the main location has become a prime destination in Atlanta and is known for a diverse Caribbean menu. It attracts plenty of celebrities, celebrity watchers, and diners wanting an elegant experience. There are now three other locations designed with the same vibe. The self-paced master class is open to anyone who has ever considered their own place, whether it’s a sit-down restaurant or a food truck. Enrolling in the masterclass also offers access to other entrepreneurial advice and the ability to engage and network with fellow students.
