0Alphaville’s Marian Gold On The New Album “Eternally Yours,” The Legacy Of “Forever Young” & More
Formed in Germany in 1983 by vocalist and lyricist Marian Gold and keyboardist Bernhard Lloyd, Alphaville topped the charts globally with hits like “Big In Japan” and “Forever Young.” Decades later, the music of Alphaville remains relevant and widely-utilized, since “Forever Young” itself was sampled by Jay-Z for “Young Forever” and part of the Napoleon Dynamite film and corresponding soundtrack. “Big In Japan” was covered by the Guano Apes in 2000. Other notable international singles for Alphaville over the years included “Sounds Like a Melody,” “The Jet Set” and “Dance With Me.”
The latest studio full-length from Alphaville is 2022’s Eternally Yours. Alphaville’s eighth album to date, this one is a symphonic double album, as due out on Friday, September 23, 2022 via Bob Frank Distribution. The expansive new offering finds Alphaville founder Marian Gold partnering with respected film and television arrangers Max Knoth and Christian Lohr and the esteemed German Film Orchestra Babelsberg for re-imagined orchestral versions of Alphaville’s classics and favorites, in addition to the brand new song — exclusive to the Eternally Yours album — title track “Eternally Yours.”
On August 24, 2022, I had the pleasure of speaking with Marian Gold via Zoom, as embedded below. We spoke about Alphaville’s past, present and future, including Eternally Yours, during that conversation. More on Gold and Alphaville can be found online by clicking here, here and here.
