NYA On Her New Single “Side Effects,” Working With Producer Brian Kennedy, Living In Uruguay, Future Recording Plans & More

NYA is a genre–bending singer/songwriter based between Los Angeles, Paris and Uruguay. A sharp-witted lyricist with an unmistakable voice, she brings a soulful delivery and jazz-influenced musicianship to her alternative pop sound, crafting unflinchingly honest songs that resonate with listeners across the globe. At the age of 16, years before NYA became a Billboard-charting artist, she was accepted into a special Grammy Museum summer camp for budding songwriters called the “Music Revolution Project,” which carried the goal of offering some of the country’s most creative young musicians the opportunity to engage in musical discourse and performance with their likewise talented peers. This program ultimately exposed NYA’s music to The Internet and Anderson .Paak.

Earlier today, NYA released her new single “Side Effects,” as co-written by herself and four-time GRAMMY-winning songwriter/producer Brian Kennedy (Rihanna, Chris Brown, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson). A very personal song, the track addresses the struggles, or “side effects,” that so many face when entering the adult world. NYA’s previous singles include “Mother’s Daughter” (which reached #22 on Billboard’s AC chart), “Closer Than Close” (which reached #32 on the Adult Top 40 chart and #35 on Hot AC), “The Real You” (which reached #26 on the Billboard AC chart and the Top 20 on the Adult Contemporary Mediabase chart), “HIGH” (which reached #21 on Mediabase) and “Won’t Pick Up The Phone” (which has earned more than 2.5 million views — and counting — on YouTube alone).

On September 28, 2022, I had the pleasure of speaking with NYA, which you can watch by clicking here. More on NYA and her new music can be found by clicking here, here, here, here and here.
