0Robert De Leo On His New “Lessons Learned” Album, Future Stone Temple Pilots Plans, New Jersey, Bass Influences & More
For decades, Robert De Leo has been internationally-known for his work as the bassist and principal songwriter of the iconic band Stone Temple Pilots. Yet De Leo has always kept busy between tours and album cycles for Stone Temple Pilots. This includes time spent as a member of the major label bands Army Of Anyone and Talk Show, tours as part of The Hollywood Vampires and Kings Of Chaos, session work with Japanese rock icons B’z, and co-producing a full-length album for Alien Ant Farm.
October 2022 brings the release of Robert De Leo’s first ever solo album, Lessons Learned. Lessons Learned bears many shades of De Leo in his full glory as a multi-instrumentalist, as he played virtually all the instruments on the album. Collaborators on Lessons Learned include Ours’ Jimmy Gnecco, Silverthorne’s Pete Shoulder, The Mother Hips’ Tim Bluhm, and vocalist Kara Britz. Per American Songwriter, Lessons Learned “leaves more evidence” of De Leo’s “mastery of melody and arrangement.”
Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of interviewing Robert De Leo via Zoom, which you can watch here. Beyond Lessons Learned, we talked about De Leo’s future plans related to Stone Temple Pilots, his New Jersey roots and his influences as a bassist. More on De Leo and Lessons Learned — which is also available on vinyl as of early December — can be read online by clicking here, here and here.
