New Orleans Riser Rob49 Hits with New Single ‘Pill Head’
Emerging New Orleans superstar Rob49 dropped what is being described as his “sinister” new single “Pill Head” via Rebel Music/Geffen Records. The latest release from Rob’s forthcoming 4God II EP, “Pill Head” is touted as “…a pure distillation of the snowballing momentum that has quickly made him one of the most talked-about rappers in the world.” “Pill Head” is available now at all digital retailers.
The music bed for “Pill Head” is a beat from producer Schife and I’d agree with the description that it “…sounds like a foreboding evolution of the Cash Money sound that defined New Orleans during Rob’s youth…”, the MC raps like a runaway train, recalling the times he robbed the mailman as a teenager and venting the trust issues that have plagued him since.
More on Rob49
“Pill Head” follows in the wake of his collaboration with DaBaby on “Hate It Or Love It” from this past March, and “4God II,” both of which are set to appear on Rob’s forthcoming EP. The G Herbo-assisted preceded those tracks “Add It Up,” and “Product of the Trenches,” two pummeling singles that emanate confidence and danger. Additionally, Rob recently toured with Nardo Wick, expanding his fanbase with each stop. This past fall, he also performed in the halftime show at a Pelicans game in his native New Orleans.
In just a short time, Rob has been embraced by some of hip-hop’s heavy hitters: 2022 album Welcome to Vulture Island features collaborations with Icewear Vezzo, Babyface Ray, Doe Boy, Landstrip Chip, and Lil Baby—to say nothing of the project being introduced by legendary Cash Money Records founder Birdman. His single “Vulture Island 2” with Lil Baby amassed more than 28 million views on YouTube alone. With “Pill Head,” Rob makes it clear that he’s ready to take his dominance to the next level.
What I personally dig about this joint is the cool, calm, and collected yet, powerful delivery. The talk is strong and nobody can teach that type of presence as is evidenced by the to-the-point video that accompanies this missile…either you have it or don’t. The combination makes this young lion, IMO, a bonified problem on the scene…believable. I think Rob49 will be part of the conversation long after this banger is in the archives and “Pill Head” is a great follow-up or introduction to this artist. 4/5 in my book.
