LA-based Open Mike Eagle returns to announce his upcoming project Another Triumph of Ghetto Engineering with an August 25th release date via Auto Reverse. Alongside the announcement, the LA-by-way-of-Chicago rapper shares his newest single “WFLD 32,” featuring long time collaborators, eshu tune (the rap persona of Hannibal Buress who recently released his single “I LIFT WEIGHTS” this past June), still rift and video dave. Starting August 16th, OME will set out on a 15-date tour with stops in Atlanta, Memphis, North Carolina, Missouri, Pennsylvania and more.

This latest offering follows in the footsteps of his previous work with OME demonstrating his refined penmanship and signature pensive flow. On “WFLD 32,” listeners can find the rapper ruminating over his life goals, a desire to perfect his art and overall anxieties that come with financial dues and putting music out into the world. Following Kenny Segal’s acclaimed collaboration with billy woods on Maps, which obtained a score of 8.9 from Pitchfork who noted how Kenny effortlessly “[matched billy’s] motion with kaleidoscopic production that shifts like tides,” it was a no brainer to enlist him onto the project’s lead track. With features from eshu tune, still rift, and video dave, the five have curated a sound that weaves in and out of self-reassurance and a wistful acceptance of reality.

Another Triumph of Ghetto Engineering, like the title, is a sobering reflection on black creativity, specifically in the rap and hip-hop space, mixed with OME’s own personal experiences. Speaking on the album, he shares “In the ghetto we never stop toiling! These songs are all fancy ways of saying ‘fuck you’ to people that ignore us and ‘thank you’ to people that care if we live or die! Pay close attention to the song titles! This is another triumph of ghetto engineering! I took that cover photo. Thats my mama’s hand!”

Last year, the rapper released his critically-acclaimed album Component System with the Auto Reverse, which was praised by Pitchfork “as the geographical and spiritual nexus of Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles, tracing a map of people and places that have shaped Eagle’s experience with hip-hop.” In addition to spending his time perfecting his craft, OME can also be found working on his highly rated podcast What Had Happened Was with legendary A&R/producer Dante Ross, where the two explore the impact of hip-hop’s most important hitmakers.
