Award-Winning Program Director ‘Solo’ on Building the 94.5 Streetz FM Brand—Plus!

“I’m still working with artists, building a platform, and having a safe place for them to build their talent”  – Solo

94.5 Streetz FM Program/Promotions Director Solo has stood the test of time. From his early days of promoting while still a student at Clark Atlanta University to working with stars like Jermaine Dupri, TI, and Ludacris. Solo is known as the secret ingredient to the success of most enterprises he’s had a hand in building.

As program Director in one of the Top 10 radio markets in the U.S. Solo has the attention of the majority of the Black Music Culture in Atlanta, GA, and beyond. With his lineup of carefully chosen on-air acts like Yung Joc and Jazzy McBee and a curated playlist that literally has people dancing in their cars, Solo has combined his unique skills in leadership and creativity to entertain the masses in both conversation and music that matters.

Prior to COVID-19, under his leadership as both Program and Promotions Director, Solo grew the radio brand from one hundred to six hundred thousand listeners across multiple platforms – those numbers continue to rise both online and throughout Georgia.

From the ground up, Solo cut no corners as he learned every facet of Radio. The powerhouse radio executive started out as an intern and worked his way up to Program Director in just 5 short years. No stranger to social and political activism, he understood the assignment and the power of using his platform and influence to inspire a new generation of non-voters in Georgia to get up, get out, and Vote.

With the power of the 94.5 Streetz Brand in multiple markets throughout Georgia, Solo played a major role as he partnered with other Georgia radio stations statewide with the Black Radio United For The Vote Campaign during the election. Their goal was to get Black non-registered voters to the poll to effect change through statewide activations that mobilized and informed non-voters of why, where, and how to vote, and the mission was accomplished. This past week, Solo held in his hands the award for Broadcaster of the Year at The 2023 Gabby Awards for his excellence in broadcasting.

Known by his moniker The ComeUpp Kidd, Solo took to social media to announce his recent award, holding the trophy firmly in his hands because he’s a winner and no one can take that away from him. In a recent IG post, the radio executive wrote “To be honored with #BroadcasterOfTheYear with other stations for our #BlackRadioUnitedForTheVote is a blessing …”.

The Streetz were talking as radio enthusiasts and Fans of Atlanta’s No. 1 Station for Hip Hop responded with an array of emojis ranging from handclaps, fire, champagne bottle, celebration, thumbs up, red and blue hearts, 100’s to signify their love and respect for his loyalty, hard work, and creativity. It was a heartfelt celebration both in person and on social media.

One fan wrote, “Congratulations Solo! Very much deserved. Your work ethic is exemplary. Watching you do your thing is inspiring. Many more awards are coming.” Another fan commented, OKAY Streetz!!! You continue to do a stellar job in leading the station to new heights! Congrats homey! P.S. you’re sharp too!.”

As both Program and Promotions Director for 94.5 Streetz FM, Solo has been intentional about investing in people whether it’s creating opportunities for interns to learn radio, giving new talent opportunities to be heard, and providing a platform for new, talented acts. Solo’s dedication to building and growing the community and taking the vision to new levels is undeniable.

With me starting as an intern, I have a soft spot for the intern process. I launched the internship program at Streetz 94.5 FM to connect the community and open up more opportunities for the younger generation in radio. It is important for me to train the next generation of radio so radio continues to be a huge part of the community. I still work with artists, building a platform and lane for the right ones to be showcased,” Solo tells TheHypeMagazine.

With a strong passion for radio, Solo believes that the medium will always be relevant because it’s rooted and based in the community. “I don’t see radio phasing out. Radio is still a huge medium in the market – it’s still free, it’s still in cars, and it’s a simple task, you don’t have to buy a phone or have phones to use it. Podcasters don’t give out Turkeys. With the faucet of being community-driven -people will always need their voices heard, there will always be a need for community, giveaways and more therefore radio will stand the test of time.”

No lesson in life comes without costs. So When I say life taught me, you better believe I paid the price.” #soloshidd
