The Real Meladee Weighs in on Her Movement

For four decades, a Hermes Birkin bag has been the hottest of commodities — a must-have for the stylish and a thing to be coveted by up-and-comers. What accounts for its eternal popularity? For starters, it looks great. It’s bright and eye-catching, and it complements outfits of all kinds. It’s also a rare thing: few are made, and each one crafted has its own personality. But the Birkin bag is also famous for its utility. These accessories may be as pretty as a jeweled necklace, but they’re also tough. They’re not showpieces; they’re designed for action thinks The Real Meladee

Many of the same things can be said about The Real Meladee. The Tallahassee, FL rapper is simultaneously versatile and resilient, exciting and reliable. As effortlessly fresh as she is, her style makes her a classic. When she locks into a verse, she’s precise and communicative. She doesn’t have to tell us that she wants an exclusive bag; a Birkin is hers by birthright. On “Birkin,” her first single, she isn’t covetous, hungry, or even particularly desirous – but she does make it clear that one Birkin isn’t enough; she wants three. Meladee leads with her quiet swagger, her surety that she deserves only the best, and her knowledge that she’s got the cash to cop the most expensive fashions.

“Birkin” both extends and deepens the mood of “Set the Tone,” Meladee’s recent underground hit. Those who’ve heard her songs before know what to expect: a thunderous kick, skittering snare, smoke-ring synthesizers, and a magnetic delivery from the star. No matter what she’s rapping about, Meladee’s voice is even, breathy, dreamlike — she floats these tracks with absolute confidence. When she tells you she doesn’t bother to check the prices on the tags, it’s not even a boast. You’ll know she’s telling the truth.

A song like “Birkin” demands a glittering, gorgeous video, and frequent Slip N Slide collaborator, Counterpoint 2.0, has delivered with a kinetic clip exciting enough to prompt a shopping spree. There’s money everywhere: the rapper fans herself with a huge wad of twenties, and reclines on a surface covered with bills. The stores, the cars, the clothing, and the jewelry are all top-drawer; it’s a celebration of conspicuous consumption, and it’s deliciously shameless. Nothing upstages the bag, however. The title item is made of leather, tinted yellow, with golden trim. Smart and tight as it is, there’s plenty of room in there for stacks of dollars.

The Real Meladee “Set The Tone”

Tallahassee, FL rapper The Real Meladee is simultaneously versatile and resilient, exciting and reliable. Though she’s often inspired by the success of other female artists in her genre, Meladee is a musical stand-out, driven by the goals she sets for herself rather than imitating anyone else. Her inspiration comes from things she sees and feels as she grows, bringing a sense of pride every time she gets in the studio to make something different. And that’s exactly what she’ll be doing next: releasing new music to separate herself as an artist and deliver music that fans love.

“Set The Tone” is Meladee’s recent underground hit, and it’s making waves already: it’s reached over 36k views in its first two weeks on YouTube. Describing the song, she says, “With this record, I’m letting it be known that I see myself taking over. I bring something fresh and new to the table as a rapper, and I aim to set the tone for everyone in the genre, male and female.”

The “Set The Tone” video was directed by It’s Mason Productions (IMP) and shot at different events around Miami. The “Set The Tone” video opens with a snapshot into The Real Meladee’s digital life: prominent rappers and figures in the entertainment industry are all over her IG, following her profile and commenting on her posts. She rides in a classic Corvette to a shopping spree at the mall and the recording studio, spitting bars that speak only the truth: she’s fresh from head to feet, and standing on top of the world. Bigger artists like Sukianna and Trina also appear in the visual – icons Meladee is coming on par with. Take a ride along with The Real Meladee to experience the city’s nightlife in this visual.

The Real Meladee “Rocket Man”

Rappers everywhere beware: compared to other artists trying to get their come up, Florida rapper The Real Meladee is growing at an alarming rate. The trailblazing artist from Tallahassee has been dropping singles so fast that she could probably build an album. Not only that, each single exhibits a finer tuning of craft, confidence, and flow. All this would be surprising if we didn’t know what The Real Meladee had to overcome to reach this point. Compared to her upbringing, taking over the rap game is a cakewalk. On tracks like “Birkin” and “Set the Tone,” she chronicles her past and her expectations for the future for fans, haters, and history. Jump in now and get to know The Real Meladee before she takes off.

Then again, maybe this is the moment she’s taking off, with her new release “Rocket Man“. Over a sly and almost villainous beat by Michael “Mikey” Murray, our rap queen-to-be rattles off flex after flex in her seemingly effortless sequence of bars. Her casual flow oozes confidence—there’s no question whether she believes in what she’s saying. The real question is whether we’re ready for someone like The Real Meladee to tell it like it is.

Before the countdown reaches zero, hop on board and watch the music video for “Rocket Man.” Directed by DSVX Shots, the flick features raw and stylish shots of The Real Meladee spitting truth. Cruising through the Miami night scene, the artist makes her masterful grasp of her craft look easy. But don’t let yourself be deceived—The Real Meladee is in a whole different galaxy than us mere mortals.

What about the Birkin bag inspired you to write a song about it?

I wasn’t inspired by the Birkin bag itself. It’s really just a song I made for fun; I wanted to create something more feminine in its message and vibe than the music that I usually make.

Can you describe the writing process for “Birkin”

I didn’t write “Birkin” at all, I never sit down and write my music. I just went into the studio, heard the beat, and freestyled it. For “Birkin,” I let myself have fun and the words just came to me.

Who is your inspiration and why?

When it comes to my music, I pull a lot of inspiration from myself and my experiences. My musical style is very unique to me. In my career, I am inspired by the success of others. I see people achieve things, inspired by other people I can see the levels I want to reach and go beyond those.

How would you describe your style?

My style is sexy without having to show way too much skin. My style is very unique to me, I’m just being myself.

What are your goals for your music career?

I want to become a star, but beyond that, I want to change the rap game. I want to be one of a kind in the music I make, and the start of something new. I want to stand for something, stand on something, and not just follow the rules like everybody else.

How do you deal with a creative block?

Whenever I need to tap back in creatively, I just take a break from everyone, and take that time to focus on me and what makes me happy.

What’s next for you?

Dropping my single called “Rocket Man,” pushing forward, and being consistent.
