Fayetteville’s Rising Music Icon SkGlizzii Blends Faith, Resilience, and Authenticity in Chart-Topping Hits

Dorian Collins, widely known as SkGlizzii in the music world, traces his musical roots to the church choir, where his early experiences alongside his mother ignited his love for music and devotion to Jesus. Hailing from Fayetteville, North Carolina, the same city that produced J. Cole, SkGlizzii’s innate musical talent blossomed early, drawing inspiration from artists like Future and J. Cole. As you see yourself, who is Skglizzii?

A God fearing man from Fayetteville NC who fell in love with music and reveals truth and reality and pain through it.
Your passion for music started at an early age in your family’s church.

How has your upbringing and musical background influenced the style and message of your music today?

A lot tbh. Everything around me was music so I learned at an early age how to tone and perfect my craft from family and friends. Also how to keep it raw and straightforward in it.

Tell us about your current project?

“I Need Somebody” is definitely trending and flowing up the charts but I also just recently dropped a new club banger “2-6, J, Cole” that the fans definitely gonna love and it has a dance and all.

The story behind “I Need Somebody” is deeply personal and reflects a challenging time in your life. How did you navigate through such a difficult period, and how did music play a role in helping you cope?

Consistent prayer and just staying focused on the goal and task at hand. With music, it was and is a better outlet for me to release my pain constructively instead of going to the drugs and alcohol or to the streets.

After facing a murder charge and spending two years in jail, how did you find the strength and inspiration to turn your life around, especially considering the loss of your mother and two best friends during that period?

Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior is the only answer to that one 4 real. Because without Him and prayer ain’t no telling where I would be.

Your involvement with Way2Real seems to have played a crucial role in your personal and artistic development. Can you tell us more about the impact of Way2Real on your life and how it has shaped your perspective on both music and personal growth?

WAY2REAL teaching me how to be a true King on the earth. How to exercise dominion over my emotions. How to turn negative into positive. How to tone and craft my gift. WAY2REAL is teaching me how to reach my full potential. How to truly love yourself so I can love those around you. How to stay consistent and never give up on whatever heart and mind is set to. For my bucket list, to reach those they say can’t be reached. All those the world / industry wrote off as nobody’s. I want to connect with some big names in the industry.

Your musical style has evolved, and you’ve expressed a desire to be versatile and explore various genres. How do you see your music evolving in the future, and what genres do you hope to experiment with?

People want music that can connect with them on a deeper and more rooted level that’s what I strive to deliver. No matter the genre. I’m a special talent who has been gifted to make music that appeals to Rhythmic, Urban and Pop formats. My HIT single “I Need Somebody” is charting in each of the aforementioned, #2 – Rhythmic, #12 – Urban, #7 – Pop on the Mediabase Indie Charts.

Your experiences have led you to address not only personal struggles but also broader issues in the world and mental health in your music. How important is it for you to use your platform to bring awareness to these issues, and what messages do you hope your listeners take away from your music?

What’s on your horizon for 2024? It’s VERY important to me to tell the truth through my music about the ongoing struggle and issues we all face daily (mental health and behavioral). If I don’t, who will? We gotta let them know it’s ok to say “I NEED SOMEBODY”. I need help. Please help me! On the horizon is national tv and bigger, arena, stadium concerts.

The Hype Magazine wants to know: What’s been your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?! Or “WTF?!” moment thus far in your career?

Tbh, I haven’t had one yet but it’s definitely coming soon lol I know it.
