Yhapojj – hope u like me

a new single from Yhapojj called “hope u like me” – if you’re not already familiar, Yhapo is an emerging artist from Alabama who’s quickly become the face of the new underground Hip-Hop scene. He had a huge breakthrough year in 2023, racking up over 6 Million streams and dropping two of his most popular songs to date in “1o” & “You Lookin Gud” (both of which appeared on his Apple-charting November EP Evolution of Xur).
Bringing fresh melodies, experimental vocals and a candid emotional side to the revived “jerk rap” sound that he’s helped to pioneer, Yhapojj has skyrocketed over the past few months – he even had a show in NY get shut down by the NYPD after thousands of people showed up to a 250-cap venue. This resulted in an impromptu concert in LES Skatepark (documented by Our Generation Music alongside fellow rising stars xaviersobased and Nettspend) – contributing greatly to the hype around Yhapo and his sound. Widely regarded as an Artist to Watch in 2024 by the likes of OGM and No Bells, his new single “hope u like me” is his first of the year as he looks to keep his hot streak going.
  • From Huntsville, Alabama, Yhapojj is a 19-year-old artist who’s single-handedly creating a new wave of futuristic, expressive music taking over the underground scene
  • With the lack of a local music wave surrounding him, he turned to inspiration from artists like ILoveMakonnen and the late Freddie Mercury of Queen to create his own sound (highlighted by uniquely slurred vocals + deep, candid lyricism)
  • Bluntly shares personal struggles and feelings of pain, while tackling topics like heartbreak and isolation (“Sstay Away From Me” is about falling out with a long-time friend while other tracks like “Hurt My Feelings” (2.6M+ Streams) find him experimenting with his falsetto vocals and addressing his mental state)
  • Racked up over 6 Million Streams in 2023 and skyrocketed to the forefront of the underground with the help of viral moments like the shutdown of his over-attended show at Mercury Lounge in NYC in December
  • Him + his music are serving as an example for young black men to deal with their struggles head-on
  • Despite being fiercely independent, initially gained traction with solo songs like “Hittin” and “On My Last”
  • Recent explosion of songs like “You Lookin Gud” and “1o”, as well as the rise of interest in the new wave “jerk” sound he helped pioneer, have catapulted him to the front of the pack

Press Quotes

“Throughout Evolution of Xur, Yhap drifts in and out of moods ranging from agitated and aggressive to calm, melodic drones that do a better job of placing you in the wilderness.” – Zander Tsadwa, Across The Culture
