Silent Parties by Silence in The City: Celebrating a Two-Decade Old Movement

I remember my first experience with silent parties somewhere around 2015-2016 at SXSW thanks to my friend Andrew aka Ocelot. Ocelot is a multi-faceted cat with his fingers in a lot of pots, he’s a Live Event Production/Stage Manager, DJ, Hip Hop artist, etc. As a journalist, I was impressed by the concept and just how popular the trend was back then. On one of my recent run-throughs of Instagram, I found this dope festival that’s all about silent parties called “Silence in the City” based in Atlanta and headed up by Tristan Pickett, Chief Operations Officer, Nueatlanta LLC. Of course, since I was curious and intrigued by the longevity of this music sub-movement, I thought I’d drop a note about it.

How it Started

Originating in Europe in the early 2000s, silent parties began as a novel way to experience music. However, it wasn’t until recent years that they gained widespread popularity, becoming a fixture in cities around the world, including Atlanta.

Picking up the Mantle

“Silence in The City,” Atlanta’s beloved silent party experience, has been a staple for the past five years, offering a diverse array of entertainment. Highlights range from art installations to culinary delights, they curate immersive experiences that keep attendees coming back for more.

What sets silent parties apart is the unique audio setup. Picture this: three DJs spinning tracks simultaneously, each broadcasting a different genre through individual channels. This allows attendees to choose their preferred music using wireless headphones, creating a customizable auditory experience.

Next up for the Silent Festival

The upcoming Silent Festival on May 25th promises to elevate the silent party concept to new heights. Featuring a main stage with a stunning LED light show, designated color zones for each genre, and enthusiastic team captains to energize the crowd, it’s an event not to be missed.

Tickets are available at varying tiers, starting from $20 for early bird admission. Group rates are also available for parties of ten or more, making it the perfect outing for friends and family.
